I think the relevance and significance of this will be readily apparent to all, eh?:

Different day, SOS. But at least I don't have to thank nothing and pretend I like it.

The call has gone out, but, so far, no one has ridden to the rescue. What is it with alla y'all atheists, anyway? Aint got the courage of your convictions, that it?

@layman,
You're kidding!
After I singlehandedly rescued that thread from the savages of slander?

@hingehead,
Interesting. That's what they did with those who sinned by translating the bible into the vernacular. Perhaps that's why I prefer talking to an atheist over a foam at the mouth believer.

@hingehead,
As Dr. O'Hair appears to demonstrate, for some, perhaps many, perhaps most (I dunno) there appears to be more to the "atheist" position than mere a-theism.

Compare a person who we might call "apolitical," for example. Such people generally simply "take no interest" in politics. They don't know who's running for office and they don't care. They just don't want to spend time in their lives thinking, worrying, or caring about "politics," for whatever reason.

I've never seen a "club" for the apolitical, where they join to share, repeat, propagate and broadcast their views. They don't seek to "expand" the number of apolitical people. They don't try to convert people who get involved in politics to their way of thinking. They don't try to ridicule those who are interested in politics, etc. Politics in just not subject they are interested in.

It's often quite different for a-theists, though. There's something different, there.

@neologist,
How odd. Vernacular translations are ubiquitous now. I remember hearing some priest reading a bit of a 'street talk' translation of the bible. I was young, it was the early 70s and even then it sounded hopeless out-dated and try hard - like a pastiche of Maynard G. Crebbs. And then there's the Klingon translation.

I think only apostates threaten the religious more than atheists - which shows the true nature of their fear.

Oh I see your point. Like how all african americans are exactly the same, and all homosexuals. Rolling Eyes

@layman,
To expand: what atheists have in common is their treatment by theists - that's where it ends - everything is correlation not causation.

Atheists do not threaten theists at all.

One guesses there are gods...the other guesses there are no gods.

Agnostics acknowledge not knowing...and acknowledge that the evidence for and against the question is too ambiguous to make a meaningful guess.

But atheists and theists will defend their positions as though the evidence were clear and compelling.

Anyway...this is another day where there is no clear evidence that there are gods...and no clear evidence that gods do not exist.

I guess it is still an unknown.

@layman,
I remember her being mocked a lot and nothing about it, with no opinion of my own.

I am an a-theist. I react because of of all the kumquats all over the place, some of them yelling and others killing for religion differing (read, territory, but also wild ass viewpoints).
