It has been shown that even the innate nature of men can be adapted by education.

That's a very broad, vague and unqualified statement. Indeed, it's almost meaningless. I'll agree that there are numerous examples of systems of education that can shape the nature and future behavior of SOME of the people who experience it, but none I am aware of have even perfect or even very high sucess rates. Moreover none of them are successful in shaping all the behaviour of those who expeience them. That said you aren't left with much here except a nice-sounding vapid and almost empty generality.

Bingo.

But, ya gotta admit, it sure sounds good, eh? And "enlightened" probably, too.

@georgeob1,
So, you are telling me that the humankind cannot achieve some of the goals that most of us judge desirable?

As a matter of fact, if I don't have faith in a god, I do in humankind.

The current erroneousness is a moment in time and I do firmly believe that the humankind can (and will) do much better.

The Cassandras will not prevail.

I've a saying myself: never take the worse for granted.

The path we are on looks very much like extinction, if unchecked. People are gonna feel real foolish, believing in god and going extinct at the same time.

Awww...somehow I have upset you.

Now you are throwing sand.

Does it hurt much?

I love ya, Timur. You are an okay guy even though you act like a jerk.

@edgarblythe,
I agree with everything there, Edgar...in fact, I love that list. I would not say I "believe in" them...but they are all things that I want and for which I advocate.

The only problem I have with you is that you go one step too far. You assert that there is no GOD.

Nothing you guess about gods bothers me...they are only guesses...and your guesses might be correct...just as anyone else's guesses might be.

But you assert there are no gods...you assert it blindly. And when challenged, you are not willing to acknowledge it is not something you "have determined"...but rather just a guess.

Great list though. I hope we can achieve some of it.

@edgarblythe,
Atheism does not hurt my feelings, Edgar...and I think you know that.

You are asserting it is possible to determine there are no gods.

I am saying it cannot be determined.

Asserting that there is a GOD...is a guess about the REALITY of existence.

Asserting that there are no gods...also is a guess about the REALITY of existence.

@timur,
You ought to try to pretend you have some class, Timur.

I doubt you'd get away with it...but you ought to try.

You look so stern today...just like you do every day!

@Frank Apisa,
You are a pretentious little ****, Frank.

You always pretend to know what others feel or think.

Like pretending I look stern.

Well, I do look Stern but the German word..

@timur,
Nah...I am not pretentious...nor a ****.

I sometimes guess or speculate about what others are thinking ...but I never pretend to know. You must have someone else in mind.

Your avatar looks like a guy with a lemon in his mouth. Anyone who would pick that avatar must delight in being miserable. Or at least, that is my guess.

This is fun, Timur. I hope you are getting as much enjoyment out of it as I am. I look for your posts first. Do you look for mine first also?

Acceptance of either proposition requires faith. Hardcore atheists have never been short on faith, notwithstanding their purported distain for accepting propositions on faith. Go figure, eh?

@layman,
That has been my point with Edgar right along, Layman.

Edgar is a good guy...with a big heart and a guy who wants to see a much better and fairer world.

On the issue of the existence of a GOD, however, he is as much a "believer" as the pope...although in the opposite direction.

@Frank Apisa,
I don't get any enjoyment from the crap you utter.

I don't revel in such low human feelings.

You are mistaken, as usual, if you think I delight in misery.

Is that a photo of yourself at the top of your posts??

Disagreement isn't a threat or injury, except for the pathologically insecure.

Loosen up!

Well, if it was, I'd be well past expiration date.

I sometimes am in awe how people can mistake themselves so much.

You pretend to have a rational mind and you make statements this kind?

I expected better, George...

Well what we know of Cassandra came from Homer and the Greek Tragedies of Aeschulus and Euripides - all about 2,500 years ago. From these texts we can readily see that human nature and the ability of humans to achieve their goals hasn't improved noticeably since then.

Even an elementary study of history confirms this.The quality of the lives of humans rises and falls in different areas and cultures over time, but always due to the continuing struggles attending the many enduring contradictions of human nature.

Just what is the foundation for your expressed confidence and faith in this area?
