I know water is what the food bosses want me to pick but holy Hell, why bother with that low taste horrible texture stuff? Increasingly the shelf is full of water packed, is this really because more and more people are buying this crap?

@hawkeye10,
I buy my tinned fish from the Wild Planet people when I can afford it. The company is local to where I used to live in northern California, and it tastes by far the best to me.

@hawkeye10,
The spare oil in the tin in the wild planet tuna is.... tuna oil.

@ossobuco,
WOW, I need to see about getting some. I am weird, I have almost always loved tinned seafood, smoked or not, and I will pay a lot extra for extra good and unusual.

@ossobuco,
Cyclo recommended the Wild Planet pouches years ago. Very expensive here - when you can find it.

for plain old tuna salad i'll buy water packed, but for salads i buy olive oil packed

sardines have to be packed in olive oil, there's a clover leaf brand that comes packed in olive oil with black olive slices and spices, i buy multiple cans when they're on sale

@ehBeth,
Not so here, it's just that I'm a very low budget person. On the other hand, it's not that bad, re other stuff. I'm converting, like their sardines too.

@ehBeth,
McKinleyville, whatserhername - I always liked her a lot - lived there, slightly after I left the area.
Sigh.

So did the eye surgeon that wrecked my left eye, a fine person, and I don't mean that sarcastically.

Anyway, their tinned fish are not so expensive here, it's just that I buy spare, but on this, I'm for it.

@ossobuco,
Really good tinned seafood is an affordable luxury. I recommend it to be taken with a nice cracker and Camembert, with a delicious cheap wine, my current favorite being Twisted Old Vine Zinfandel 2012 1.5 litters for $9 at Costco.

@hawkeye10,
You don't live on my tiny income.
When I recommend spending more, people should listen.
