@Fiona368,
Water can be tasteless but only in very few instances.

Its taste depends on many factors but mainly what environmental elements it gets in contact with: earth, rocks, mud, leaves, wood and so on.

It can be sweet, bitter, astringent and have all kinds of other tastes.

@timur,
I'd go with synonyms for malleable, kind of like changeable, variable, etc.

The spa water at Bath has a very strong flavour of warm flat-irons, according to Sam Weller.

That's what it feels like in the mouth, not what it tastes like.

To the OP:

Pure water is flavourless - it tastes of nothing. Any flavour that water may have is due to impurities such as salt (seawater), minerals, chlorine etc. Fresh water from a spring may, for example, taste of the rocks that it has passed through - chalky, ferrous (iron salts) etc. Water with dissolved carbon dioxide ("soda water") has a mild acidic taste.

@Fiona368,
In what context? Are you looking to describe your own tap water to a plumber? To a lawyer to find out if a lawsuit against your landlord or town water source? Are we talking about a work of fiction you are writing and it's an alcoholic character describing have to drink water because he is prohibited in drinking his favorite cocktail in his present scene?

Or are you asking for the sake of settling an argument/bar bet/etc...?

I wonder why my post above was voted down? it was strictly factual, and I can see nothing wrong with it. A person who was not a coward, or who was sure of their ground, would challenge it in an open fashion.

But I do! I won't sleep tonight, and I may have to call my counsellor. Or do a lot of sitting on the floor and rocking.

Probably some troll. But I thumbed you back up. Hope that helps.

And I will prefer water to any flavored beverage or lite beer. If I can't have an IPA, that is.

As far as the taste of water, I look on it as an enhancer with foods. By itself, on a hot day or after a bout at the club, it tastes clean.
