Revelation 1:18

Quote:
18 I am the living one. yI died, and behold I am alive forevermore, and I have the keys of Death and Hades.

Seems to me your god is holding the keys to both death and that place.

@FBM,
Quote:
I don't see hell mentioned there. You're hedging.
Why does that not surprise me.

Quote:
So, your god isn't the creator of everything seen and unseen? It doesn't have the power to change the way things are?
He is God Almighty, the Creator of all things visible and invisible. Hell is not a creation. It is a consequence of sin and a lack of faith.

I'm not surprised that you're hedging, either. That's the last resort of someone who runs afoul of logic and does't know how to correct it. Wink

According to your own scripture, which I quoted above, you're speaking heresy.

Oopsies! Looks like somebody "prepared" it... Laughing

Matthew 25:41 "Then he will say to those on his left, 'Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels."

If not your god, then who? What exists that isn't a part of "all things seen and unseen"?

@FBM,
Hades is the Greek word equivalent of Sheol, which is the common grave of mankind both the righteous and the unrighteousness go there when dead. To have the keys of death and hades is likely a reference to a resurrection from that place. I suppose That might be why the putative Jesus raised the putative lazarus to show that he had power over death.

This is of course assuming scripture to be valid. I could however be very wrong, I have been before

I guess it is a matter of personal interpretation. I find fault in the fallen angels and man for sinning as the cause for hell.

@Smileyrius,
Thanks for that. I probably was told that in undergrad, but that was a couple of decades ago. What strikes me at the moment is that the scriptures in question say that hell is both a place and that it was "prepared" by somebody. If the creator of "all that is seen and unseen" didn't do it, then who did? Tough nut to crack for apologists. Sure looks to me like this god set up an eternally burning trash can to throw his flawed creations in. Hard to get that loving, compassionate, all-forgiving feeling from that...Probably a good thing that nobody can produce any evidence that that god exist...What a dick.

Sorry. Your god made the system. Love it back or burn for all eternity. Man was made to suffer for your god's narcisissm. Your god is the celestial equivalent of a wife-beater. Or child abuser. I don't blame you for going to insane extremes to save your own balls, but the best advice for someone in an abusive relationship is to leave. Please read up on the Stockholm Syndrome.

@FBM,
HELL: The state of definitive self-exclusion from communion with God and the blessed, reserved for those who refuse by their own free choice to believe and be converted from sin, even to the end of their lives.

God is a righteous God and must punish sin. What would you think of Him if He just let all the evils of the world go by unpunished?

Seek the Cross -

John 3:14. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.

We were created perfect in God's eyes. It is man who makes himself unclean by sinning.

@Patches,
Why did your god set up a system where he uses his alleged superhuman powers to hide from us, then prepare a place to punish us for all eternity for not seeing him? I call bullshit. Your god is just about the most sadistic pseudo-entity imaginable. I'd rather go to hell than worship such a narcissistic, sadistic despot. Stockholm Syndrome. I know you're worried about your own (imgainary) eternity and will do anything to save your own ass from the brimstone, but take just a moment to consider if there's really any brimstone. No evidence for it. Just a bunch of Bronze Age stories told to scare children and the gullible into submission to the ruling elite. You can do better.

@Patches,
Right. Intelligence is the enemy of faith-based myths.

Why did your god set up a system to punish his own faulty creations with eternal hellfire and brimstone? It should consider first punishing itself for having failed to create perfect beings. Was that not within its omnisicient powers? Not seeing much to worship here...sounds like a real wanker. You can do better.
