Revealed The Secret Origin Of The Feud Between Chris Christie And NYPD
Source: Observer/ News

The law-and-order governor of New Jersey and the largest police force in America used to be mad love. But now we get bad blood. And it dates back four years to the day.

On Tuesday, Gov. Chris Christie took a swipe at Mayor Bill de Blasio for a culture of “lawlessness” in New York City. Police Commissioner Bill Bratton smacked back hard, calling Mr. Christie a “fool” and warning him to “stay within your own neighborhood” and even bringing up Bridgegate. “When he gets Trenton, when he gets Newark, when he gets Camden to be anywhere near as safe as New York City, then he might be able to criticize us,’’ Mr. Bratton added on NY1’s Inside City Hall.

If that sounds like an unlikely feud and a dramatic escalation, consider that the pressure has been building ever since a dramatic series of incidents that unfolded exactly four years ago. The story has been circulating since it occurred but doesn’t seem to have been recounted publicly until now. This version is the product of interviews with two people who were present at the exchanges described, plus one law enforcement source who did not witness these exchanges but was at the event and is an expert in the planning and procedures for this type of major commemoration.

NEW YORK, NY - SEPTEMBER 10: New York Police Department Commissioner William J. Bratton speaks at a news conference on the mistaken arrest of James Blake, a retired top-10 professional tennis player on September 10, 2015 in New York City. Blake, who is black, has said he was slammed to the ground outside his hotel in Midtown Manhattan while waiting to go to the U.S. Open tennis tournament on Wednesday. Bratton has apoligized for the incident and an investigation is continuing. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)

The whole city was preparing for September 11, 2011, the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center. On Saturday, September 10, Gov. Christie and his family watched the Blue Hens defeat West Chester 28-17 at Mr. Christie’s alma mater, the University of Delaware. The Christie family then drove from Delaware Saturday night into Manhattan and stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel in Midtown, because coming into the city the next morning with all the security around the Ground Zero ceremony would certainly be a has

Winds Of Change Blow Through South As Democrats Are Winning Special Elections On GOP Turf

For the second time in less than a month, a Democrat has pulled off a stunning victory over a Republican candidate, by flipping a State House race in an almost hopelessly red legislative district. On Tuesday night, Democrat Cyndi Munson scored an improbable 54-46 victory in Oklahoma’s House District 85, a suburban district Northwest of Oklahoma City. Since 1965, when the district was first created, it had never been won by a Democrat. That changed on Tuesday night.

The 85th District went 61-39 for Mitt Romney in the 2012 election. Yet, on Tuesday night, in a traditionally low turnout special election, the district turned a surprisingly solid shade of blue. Speaking to supporters after she’d won, Munson acknowledged the magnitude of her achievement, proclaiming:

Munson lost her race for the same seat in 2014 by 13 points, but she battled back and emerged on Tuesday night a winner. She ran on a platform supporting education and women’s health, while opposing income tax cuts for top earners. In a deep red district her message resonated with voters, weary of the GOP’s extremist stranglehold on Oklahoma politics.

As astonishing as Munson’s victory was, it was not the first Democratic upset of its kind this summer. In August, Democrat Taylor Bennett pulled off a similar surprise in Georgia’s 80th House District. Despite being outspent 2 to 1 in a district Mitt Romney carried by a 56-43 margin over Barack Obama in 2012, Bennett coasted to a 55-45 surprise victory over his Republican opponent, Max Davis.

GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee argued that blacks do not have the right to be US citizens

Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee argued on Wednesday that the 1857 Supreme Court ruling which declared that blacks did not have a right to be citizens was "still the law of the land" even though the 14th Amendment overturned it.

During an interview with radio host Michael Medved that was obtained by BuzzFeed, the former Arkansas governor complained that he had been "drilled by TV hosts" after claiming that Rowan County Clerk Kim Davis did not have an obligation to issue same-sex marriage licenses because the Supreme Court's recent decision on marriage equality was not "the law of the land" until lawmakers codified it with legislation.

Had to check, but yeah, 2013. Not that it matters, really. Hypocrisy doesn't have an expiration date. Wink

The way the headline reads, you'd think Huckabee was saying that about blacks right now. He was trying to make the (hackneyed) point that unjust laws should be disobeyed.

@RABEL222,
You keep saying that without proving it. It must frustrate you that I don't fit the picture you painted of me so long ago. Your only defense is to claim I have lied. Why not prove it if you are so sure? Oh, that's right. You never have to prove anything you say... everyone else has to provide proof but you. That's the weakness in your character.

As we reported last month, Courser — who, like Gamrat, has close ties to the Tea Party movement — was caught on tape planning to circulate an anonymous email containing a rumor about himself that he'd engaged in sex with a male prostitute.

The plan, according to the recording between Courser and an aide who was subsequently fired, was that the email wouldn't be believed because of his conservative credentials and because Courser was married and had a family.

The false rumor would help "inoculate" Courser from the charges of an affair with Gamrat, according to the tape.

The AP says: "The self-smear email called Courser a 'bi-sexual porn addicted sex deviant' and 'gun toting Bible thumping ... freak' and Gamrat a 'tramp.' "

In a May 19 conversation with aide Ben Graham, Courser, who has acknowledged the authenticity of the recording, is heard to say: "In a controlled burn, you do a little bit of truth mixed in with a lot of lies."

Quote:
On Thursday, a special House committee recommended the expulsion of both freshmen tea party legislators, who had based legislation on their Christian beliefs and clashed with GOP leadership even before the controversy broke.

@snood,
No, he's arguing that anyone can ignore any law they wish. And he chose to use one that has had reams of laws written that void the ruling. Its a false equivalency.

We won't even get into what an evil **** Huckabee is, who I don't doubt for a moment didn't have a mental revelry regarding his fantasy to be a slave master. You back easterners don't know how dark these people out here are in their heart.

1 Michigan Tea Partier Resigns, Other Ousted After Bogus Gay Sex Scandal

Source: TPM/Detroit Free Press

After faking a gay sex scandal to cover up an affair, Michigan state Rep. Todd Courser (R) resigned and Rep. Cindy Gamrat (R) was expelled from the Michigan House early Friday morning.

Courser's alleged extramarital affair with Gamrat was exposed by the Detroit News in August after Courser reportedly asked one of his aides to leak that Courser was spotted with a male prostitute. Courser later claimed that he faked the gay sex scandal to expose blackmailers.

The Michigan House disciplinary committee recommended on Thursday that both Courser and Gamrat be expelled for their roles in the affair and cover-up, prompting a lengthy debate on the state House floor.

Early on in the debate, Democratic lawmakers refused to vote to expel the Tea Party lawmakers until they had more information on the Republican-led investigation into the lawmakers' actions, according to the Detroit Free Press. After an initial vote to expel Courser and Gamrat failed on Thursday night, the state House reconvened shortly after midnight to try again.

@bobsal u1553115,
LOL. I gotta say. I can't stand that idiot, but after two days with MLK Jr and some bright-eyed tenth graders, Huckabee and that inbred Cheney-in-a-wig have the right to refuse to follow laws they consider to be unjust -- if they are willing to assume the legal repercussions.

Of course, they're wrong, but this is America. I'm going all Martin Neimoller.

No leadership is about knowing where to go and getting people to follow. But dont worry, I would not expect a failed leader such as you to understand.

I support Ellen Page for reading about the statements and policies of Huckabee and Cruz and speaking truth to them at their rallies and in the media. I wish we were all in a position to do the same. Patiently and waiting for an answer, but calling them on it when they tried to dodge around an answer.

I guess people would worry about being attacked in some of these crowds.

GOP tax proposals tilt to rich despite populist rhetoric

Quote:
DENVER (AP) -- Jeb Bush went to Detroit and talked about leveling the playing field. Marco Rubio wrote a book about helping the working class. Rand Paul is promising to expand the Republican Party beyond its traditional base.

Yet all three Republican presidential candidates have offered tax proposals that would, for reasons such as nomination politics and tax rate realities, benefit overwhelmingly the wealthiest.

In doing so, they have drawn criticism from Democrats who call it proof that the GOP's eventual nominee will mainly try to help the rich.

Even some conservatives expressed concerns after Bush released his proposed tax cut this past week. Then there was the analysis Thursday from the Washington-based Tax Foundation that concluded his plan would initially help the top 1 percent of earners 10 times as much as it would those in the bottom 10 percent.
