A former financial official who served in Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker's (R) Cabinet endorsed Democratic gubernatorial nominee Tony Evers on Monday, becoming the second former associate of Walker to come out against him in this year's race.

Former Department of Financial Institutions Secretary Peter Bildsten appears in a new ad in which he backs Evers and hits Walker as being beholden to donors and encouraging state officials to dodge public records laws.

"I thought Scott Walker was different, but he's just another politician looking out for himself," Bildsten said in the ad.

Bildsten additionally alleged that he was required to meet with special interests and lobbyists during his time in Walker's cabinet.

Bildsten's attacks against his former boss come after ex-Wisconsin Corrections Secretary Ed Wall recorded a video in support of Evers, The Associated Press reported.

Wall also alleges in his comments backing Evers that he was instructed by Walker to circumvent the state's open records law, the AP reported.

Alec Zimmerman, a spokesman for the Wisconsin GOP speaking on behalf of Walker's campaign, painted Bildsten and Wall as "disgruntled ex-employees who have an agenda to push after leaving on bad terms."

Evers, the Wisconsin superintendent of public instruction, is running to unseat Walker, who is seeking a third term in the governor's mansion following a failed presidential bid in 2016.

Public Policy Polling (PPP), a left-leaning polling firm, found in a survey released last week that 49 percent of Wisconsin voters backed Evers, compared to the 44 percent who supported Walker.

The poll was the first to be conducted after the state's gubernatorial primaries last week, where Evers defeated firefighters union president Mahlon Mitchell.
