All
I need to know about Trump is that he will prevent the Democrats from violating the Second Amendment.
I really don't care what else he does beyond that.
The trade war nonsense that he is pushing is certainly regrettable. But like I said, so long as he prevents Democrats from violating the Second Amendment, who cares.
Almost 400 years before Jesus, the bearded Greek philosophers roamed southern Europe and debated the state of the world.
Over time two different schools of reason evolved.
One was called realism and one was called idealism; each day they would gather in their bathhouses and public forums and discuss the finer points of these two disciplines.
Realism saw the world in a rather shortsighted and pessimistic way, where idealism was more optimistic, futuristic and hopeful.
For many years these two avenues of discussion dominated the Greek philosophical landscape.
The realists would argue that we lived in the here and now and the future mattered very little from their point of view while the idealists argued the without ideals that humanity could never progress onto greater achievements.
By the time Jesus "supposedly" walked the earth, idealism had fallen prey to an in your face realism that seemed changeless and formidable. Endless wars and social decadence, corruption in the highest levels of government and large divide between the rich and poor classes.
There were racial and religious divides that seemed so stark and contrasting that a resolution to this conundrum seemed impossible.
Biblical writings record the emergence of a prophet named Jesus who saw beyond the stark realism of the times and dared to teach along idealistic channels.
He spoke of the “kingdom of God”, while at the time people belonged to a myriad of different lands with earthly kings and queens.
The idea of people belong to one single earthly kingdom was preposterous! The idea of religious harmony was unthinkable! The idea of being neighborly with those from other races, religions and dominions was pure blasphemy in the face of one god or another.
Yet the Bible records that this Jesus insisted that it was possible. Well the rich people spread around a lot of fake news about this Jesus and his “feeding the poor” and the rich were in fear of having to share their wealth. Even foreign powers had a stake in seeing the governing body of Jerusalem collapse from within. If there were unity among its people, then it would only strengthen the county and that did not fit with their plan of weakening it to the point of collapse.
So, they began a systematic campaign of disinformation perpetrated by the foreign powers, the wealthiest of the lawyers and religious high priests to discredit the dangerous ideals of this Jesus.
The result was to crucify him and hang him out in public to discourage any follower from continuing along the same lines of ideals and reasoning.
These ideals were considered a detriment to the status quo.
After the death of Jesus people learned of these “dangerous ideals” through covert religious gatherings.
They became educated and this was even more worrisome to the corrupt and tyrannical rulers and powers of the time.
They sought to eradicate these ideals from the land. They burned manuscripts, murdered those who possessed these documents of heresy and forbid this Jesus cult from gathering and practicing these ideals.
Though these ideals were too powerful for them to stop, word of mouth prevailed.
These ideals spread throughout all of Europe and Asia in about two years.
The Roman empire had no other course but to adopt some form of this idealism or become hated and dethroned by its own people.
In adopting these ideals, the Roman monarchy could slowly reform the doctrins into their own image.
So they, as the church, forbid reading and writing claiming it was to keep the doctrine pure.
Eventually the message of this Jesus became lost to common knowledge.
As the Renaissance period began in Europe people revolted against the church and revived art, literature, mathematics and the “ideals” that had so long been concealed by the church and the monarchies.
The idea of one unified kingdom of God (or nature) versus many dividing kingdoms of men and women resurfaced.
As America was discovered, reason had returned to Europe and the world. The debates of realism and idealism flourished once again.
But there were still kings and the church who worked tirelessly to retain their dominion over the people.
The people revolted time and again to such a degree that in France they beheaded the royal monarchy; this became the Jesus persecution phenomenon in reverse.
Once the colonial powers were established in the Americas, the founding fathers were aware of this idealism.
This idealism that had been attacked by kings and the church so vehemently became the founders own declaration. The idealism of we the people, we are not your kingdom, but we constitute a kingdom in our own, in unity and in diversity.
These kings had shacked the people and brought war and division while the "unity of the spirit" had brought unity and peace.
Liberty…
The founding fathers understood this idealism very well. They knew that a king would only enslave the inhabitants of this new land as would a religious sect ruling the people from a narrow set of doctrines.
The realism of the day was that these founding men and women were all religious in their own way. The idealism was that the only way the country would stand and progress if there was freedom of religion and if it was ruled by “we the people” and not by a king or queen with his or her own greedy designs for power.
We could wall ourselves in with religion, racism and monarchy or liberate ourselves with the ideal of freedom, self-rule and religious and racial diversity. Though ideals may be future they are there to be gradually realized. That is how ideals work. If they were reality they would not be ideals.
Today we still have those who abhor idealism, they think that monarchy and totalitarian or clerical rule will somehow make things right, better or “great again”.
Despots have never made things better.
Clerical and totalitarian monarchies fall easily into corruption and war; war between the religions, war between the races and war between other monarchies.
What may seem like an ideal today can be realized in the future. Self-rule, no borders, religious freedom, equality…
Ideals are what create a better reality… Ideals make us great! Ideals bring us from tyrannical rule to self-rule. Ideals liberate. Ideals embody the hopes of the entire civilized world.
As for the right to bear arms... this too is to ensure that we are never ever ruled by a monarchy... That our elections stay fair and we can take up arms (as futile as it may seem) against a government that does not adhere to the will of we the people.
We answer to no king, their corruption and lust for power... but rather to the will of the collective body of the electorate.
Without the ideals of equality and freedom of religion and self-rule we fall prey to the same mistakes of the past.
@coldjoint,
I'm just curious. Has anyone ever told you they think you're a fool? I hope not, because that would be rude. (even if it were true)
@glitterbag,
I agree with Tillerson. Trump is a moron. He proves it almost every day with his 6th grade vocabulary, and his latest decision to add tariffs that ends up costing more for Americans. He went to Wharton, but didn’t learn the simplest concept of economics that free trade is the best policy that promotes competition.
Also,
https://www.npr.org/2018/01/19/578858897/turnover-in-trumps-white-house-is-record-setting-and-it-isn-t-even-close. Who in their right mind would work for him? Move your family to DC, and learn it was a temp job.
@cicerone imposter,
The pundits are saying more voluntary resignations are in the near future. Who wants to work for Trump when you don’t know how long your job will last.
When Trump fires the person in charge of a government department, it affects many others when a new leader takes over. Trump creates more chaos for more people in this country and our allies. How did we end up with this moron?
He just wants to show how powerful he is. Moron first class.

It is important that we have a president who will protect our Second Amendment rights in the face of the Democrats' crazed attempts to violate them. Trump is that man.
I do not concur with your characterization of his intellect.
@oralloy,
You narrow minded moron!

You don't even understand the responsibilities of our president.
@coldjoint,
You are a moron.

Example from the Constitution Center:

Quote:In the years since Heller, the federal courts have upheld the overwhelming majority of gun control laws challenged under the Second Amendment. Bans on assault weapons have been consistently upheld, as have restrictions on gun magazines that hold more than a minimum number of rounds of ammunition. Bans on guns in national parks, post offices, bars, and college campuses also survived. These decisions make clear that lawmakers have wide leeway to restrict guns to promote public safety so long as the basic right of law-abiding people to have a gun for self-defense is preserved.
@coldjoint,
What about the bias? Where is the bias wrong? We have free speech in this country, and almost everybody has bias, because it’s legal. Do you have bias?
@coldjoint,
You can't even get your facts straight about Wiki bias.
