I think you can see how Trump is at odds with the press in a way no other president has been. He's characterized the free press as the "enemy of the people". No other president called for congress to investigate news networks. You're being intentionally obtuse if you can't acknowledge the singular animus Trump has expressed over and over toward the press. Or you're just ******* stupid. Either way, with this I leave you to it.

Saying I'm stupid if I don't agree with you is not an argument. It's a pity, because your last post actually was an argument. I agree that Trump is at odds with the press, or you could say that the press are at odds with Trump, but I never denied that. I was talking about the idea that he is opposing the First Amendment, and that you have not shown, at least as far as your first link goes. It only shows that he is trying to investigate leaks of classified information, which is right and proper.

I am not completely sure. I believe the answer to your question is yes, that is a war on the first amendment.

That's odd, since such laws have existed for a long time in America. Most likely, he is referring to the standards for celebrities vs. non-celebrities. Saying a person should have legal recourse against false, defamatory statements is not a First Amendment issue.

How in God's name is forbidding cameras and microphones in a White House press briefing a First Amendment issue? The press is free to print whatever it wants. The First Amendment doesn't require the White House to assist them.

I guess that's true if you don't consider the First Amendment part of the constitution.

Quote:
“I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States.

It is also true if you DO consider the First Amendment part of the Constitution.

The First Amendment guarantees the right of free speech. The free press is one manifestation of the exercising of free speech. The American president is supposed to encourage freedom of the press, not attempt to stifle it.

@snood,
That's just one example of Trump's ignorance about the Constitution.

@snood,
Very well said Snood. Trump has no integrity and his attempt to move the capital of Israel on religious grounds violates the separation of church and state... An oath he swore to uphold.

Why make senators swear an oath and swear in presidents if there are no legal consequences?

Sorry, not allowing cameras and/or microphones into a press briefing is unrelated to the First Amendment. If the White House stopped having press briefings altogether, it would not violate the First Amendment. The First Amendment doesn't require the White House to assist the press. It only requires them to let the press print whatever they please. President Trump has never taken any action to prevent the press from printing what they like and has never taken any action to arrest, detain, prosecute, or fine them because of what they wrote (other than one or two libel suits). The First Amendment doesn't require him to render aid to the press.

Putting the American embassy in a country's capital is a First Amendment violation? Wow!

When it is done with religious motives, YES!

And there is this in the news today...

War on the first amendment?

It could start with you shutting your mouth! Considering your support for Trump, who don't you set an example and shut up?

Inside The Trial That Could Determine The Future Of Free Speech In America’s Capital
Trump inauguration demonstrators are facing severe felony charges that critics say threaten to chill future protests in Washington, D.C.

Nonsense.

And that's not even going into the fact that it wasn't done for religious reasons.

More to the point though, why do liberals always object to the idea of doing the right thing?

Funny you should post this because it is exactly what extreme leftism looks like. On the right you have the people who fought for socialism and on the left you have those who run the communist govt.
