@TheCobbler,
Trump and his supporters will never "get it." They will never comprehend the concept of MAD.
I was in the USAF back in the 50s, and we had enough nuclear weapons back then blow up this planet, now called MAD.
Russia knows this, and we have the advantage because we have Air Force bases all around the world in allied countries.
The targets in Russia are simple, because there are just a few large cities. Where will the Russians begin? Which one of our allies?

I'm a Trump supporter, and I understand nuclear warfighting strategy extremely well.

Bombers are an afterthought these days. Ballistic warheads are what truly count.

Perhaps that will change with the new crops of stealth bombers and stealth cruise missiles. Perhaps not.

We have thousands of nuclear targets. All are justified by some sort of military/strategic value. We haven't targeted "cities" in a very long time.

@oralloy,
Wrong. It's both bombers and missiles.

@cicerone imposter,
Not so much anymore. Much has changed and we have reduced the number of our warheads by over half.

@georgeob1,
How does that make the world safer when we have Trump with the nuclear code?

Another important feature of the Phoenix Study is its portrayal of strategic submarines as playing a much more prominent role in the strike plans than their normal image of being mainly a retaliatory second-strike force held in reserve. The study states that the secure reserve force "handles contingencies" and provides only a "limited restrike capability." Instead the SSBNs are described as one of the two main pillars in the Triad -- comparable to that of the ICBM force, which has traditionally been the backbone in the offensive nuclear strike force. In fact, the Phoenix Study only sets aside 25 percent of the SSBNs for the strategic reserve force. This change is a result of the dramatic improvement in the capability of sea-based ballistic missiles, and of the bomber force becoming less prominent in the posture. The result is described in the study as a Twin Triad posture based on the two ballistic missile legs as forming the main thrust of the nation’s deterrent, with the bombers mainly providing back-up. Indeed, the Phoenix Study concludes that the Secure Reserve Force, which is mostly SLBMs, "is not a hedge" and that the Twin Triad concept "places the day-to-day deterrence burden on the two ballistic legs."

@oralloy,
"Less prominent" doesn't mean not being used.
SAC bases around the world.

Background
For more than 40 years, B-52 Stratofortresses have been the backbone of the manned strategic bomber force for the United States. The B-52 is capable of dropping or launching the widest array of weapons in the U.S. inventory. This includes gravity bombs, cluster bombs, precision guided missiles and joint direct attack munitions. Updated with modern technology the B-52 will be capable of delivering the full complement of joint developed weapons and will continue into the 21st century as an important element of our nation's defenses. Current engineering analyses show the B-52's life span to extend beyond the year 2040.[/[/b]quote]

Unfortunately it is not stealth.

Before he left office, Obama handed Northrup Grumman an $80 billion check for 100 new stealth bombers.

The Air Force is also getting a new generation of stealth air-launched cruise missiles to be carried by these new bombers.

Once the new weapons are on-line, all non-stealth bombers will be retired from nuclear missions.

I would not be surprised if they were retired from conventional missions too.

I'm sure the experts will determine the right time to retire those old horses.

Having worked on those bombers back in the fifties, I admire how advanced their aeronautical engineering was.

Also worked on B36s and B47s.

This is why it is so important to vote for Republicans. The Democrats are labeling large swathes of the American populace as mentally ill just so they can violate their rights.

President Trump is going to put a stop to such abuse and protect our rights from the depredations of the Democrats.
