Obama Chides Darrell Issa For Touting Alliance With Him In Re-Election Fight

Quote:
“That is the definition of chutzpah,” the president said.

The Huffington Post

A resident of Carlsbad, California, recently received this mailer from Rep. Darrell Issa’s (R) campaign.

WASHINGTON ― President Barack Obama called Rep. Darrell Issa “shameless” on Sunday night, hitting the endangered Republican for referencing an alliance with him in a campaign mailer.

The mailer, which was first reported by The Huffington Post, shows a picture of Obama signing a bill that Issa co-sponsored. On top of the photo is a quote from Issa, saying he was “very pleased” the president signed legislation that established a bill of rights for survivors of sexual assault. It’s a dramatic turnaround for the congressman, who rose to national fame as the administration’s antagonist.

During a Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee event held next door to Issa’s California district Sunday night, Obama tore into the incumbent for wasting taxpayer money on “trumped-up investigations that have led nowhere” and obstructing the administration at every turn.

“And this is now a guy who, because poll numbers are bad, has sent out brochures with my picture on them touting his cooperation on issues with me,” Obama said to laughter, according to remarks provided by the White House.

“Now, that is the definition of chutzpah,” he continued. “Here’s a guy who called my administration perhaps the most corrupt in history ― despite the fact that actually we have not had a major scandal in my administration.”

Issa’s adversarial stance with the administration, and contribution to furthering birtherism, are why Trump became the Republican nominee, Obama said.

“I think somebody called Darrell Issa ― was this you, Doug, who said Darrell Issa was Trump before Trump?” Obama said, referring to Issa’s challenger retired Marine Col. Doug Applegate. “And now he’s sending out brochures touting his cooperation with me. Now, that is shameless.”

In fact, in the HuffPost story last week that touched on the mailer, Applegate’s campaign spokesman, Robert Dempsey, had compared Issa to Trump.

“Issa was Trump before Donald Trump,” Dempsey told HuffPost last month in Oceanside.

Issa hit back on the president Monday, faulting Obama for the death of Americans abroad and at home.

“I’ve worked with the administration on good legislation where it was possible, and called out wrongdoing wherever I saw it, and will continue to do so,” Issa said in a statement.

Applegate’s long-shot bid against Issa caught the Democratic Party’s attention when he came within 5.3 percentage points of Issa in California’s free-for-all primary. The race rating was changed to “toss-up” by the Cook Political Report ― a nonpartisan newsletter tracking elections ― earlier this month, a sign that Issa’s re-election is in doubt. If Democrats do manage to take back the House or make a significant dent in Republicans’ majority, it will happen because of races like Issa’s.

@TheCobbler,
Don't you mean Comey's letter to Congress. You realize he sent the letter to the entire congress, not just the GOP. Fact's are not your strong point. Hillary and everyone around her are crooks, the Wikileaks emails prove this to be true.

Plus a lot of the major polls have Clinton and Trump in a near tie. It looks as if Clinton isn't doing as well you would like to think she is doing. I think the night of Nov. 8th is going to be very interesting for all parties involved.

@TheCobbler,
Comey played politics when shouldn't have, and it backfired by over $11 million bucks. I wonder if he gets fired over this?

@cicerone imposter,
You only consider it politics because it makes your candidate look like the crook that she really is. We will have to wait and see what those 650,000 emails contain. If there is classified information on those systems, then how did they get there and how was the FBI not made aware that there were more devices out there that had connected to Hillary's private server.

@cicerone imposter,
You want me to produce emails that the Clinton team themselves didn't see fit to produce to the FBI? They only got access to those emails because of another laptop that Team Hillary failed to disclose was used to access her private server.

I'm wondering from the start why the FBI didn't trace all email address's and IP's used to access the server and grab them all up. That's right, Team Hillary made sure to erase the server and make sure it couldn't be investigated. Inside information from Congress allowed her to issues the wipe order a few days before the subpoena arrived, and then of course the server was wiped a few days after the subpoena was issued. We also now know that the FBI didn't destroy the laptops they searched earlier when they gave out all of their "immunity deals" to members of Team Clinton.

@Baldimo,
If it's so difficult, what makes you think anything hacked has any value?

@Baldimo,
I remember when you guys loved the immunity deals. Something along the line of "Now that [person] got an immunity deal, they're going to come clean about Hillary the witch!!! Wait and see!!!"

Except for the fact that she gave the go ahead to delete all the emails 3 months before the subpeona.

I wonder why you get the facts wrong......

Maybe it's a matter of efficiency. Much easier to be passionate and tireless in defense of a faulty idea if you just eschew them inconvenient facts.

What do you think the chances are a black man could get away with doing this outside a polling place?

@snood,
You only have to look back to 2008 and 2012 when the alt-right were peeing their pants because 2 black men were outside a polling place holding a club. The whole country went apeshit over "THE NEW BLACK PANTHERS", the sky is falling.

@snood,
A black man armed at a polling place will be dead.
Actually, any armed black man will be dead. Change that white guy into a black, and he'll already be dead. And more than likely, shot by a white police officer.

The FBI processed over 2 million background checks on people applying to buy a gun. The highest in history.

But how could that be? That would suggest the existence still of a blatant ugly and pervasive racial imbalance in the ways laws are enforced in this country. Our good friends here like McG and georgeob1 and other stalwart conservatives seem to always argue that the racial injustice might still exist, but not enough to justify militant protest or distrust of police. How could it be that a black man would almost certainly not be able to pull off a stunt like armed intimidation of voters unchallenged?
