@TheCobbler,
If he's the CIA chief, and he's not sure Trump is a Russian agent, he's done a piss poor job.

@cicerone imposter,
CI, the article said that in the intelligence business, if Trump's words and actions are anything to go by, Trump would be considered an unwitting Russian spy. Here's the article:
Quote:
President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia was a career intelligence officer, trained to identify vulnerabilities in an individual and to exploit them. That is exactly what he did early in the primaries. Mr. Putin played upon Mr. Trump’s vulnerabilities by complimenting him. He responded just as Mr. Putin had calculated......In the intelligence business, we would say that Mr. Putin had recruited Mr. Trump as an unwitting agent of the Russian Federation.

In other words, the guy said that Putin correctly sees Trump as a narcissist and now Putin's got Trump in his pocket, and Trump's so blind he doesn't even know it.

@Blickers,
I am not so sure the article premise is really correct, I have read a few pieces on Trump previous business ties to Russia before the primaries began. On googling it, I also found where one of Trump's advisors have business ties to Russia as well.

Inside Trump’s financial ties to Russia and his unusual flattery of Vladimir Putin

Another Trump adviser with deep ties to Russia

Maybe all Trump's talk of Russia and Putin is just a way to promote business there, removing all obstacles such as our NATO alliance would help his business ties as well. Perhaps that angle with Russia and NATO is Trump's whole motivation in wanting to president of the US. It's a thought anyway.

Whoever’s leading the polls at this point usually ends up winning

Indeed, the authors looked at general election contests going back to 1952, and found that the candidate who was in the lead two weeks after the conventions ended went on to win the popular vote every single time.

@TheCobbler,
It's reckless to say that Trump is a Russian agent. An agent is fully engaged and has a mission. Trump is only a vainglorious dupe who can be influenced by the same kind of film flam he deals in. What's worrying to me is Trump seems to think he can outsmart Putin. The KGB and its renamed entity are incredibly skilled, to think otherwise is shortsighted. I think Trump is overconfident and believes his charm puts him on a level with Putin. It doesn't, to think otherwise is foolhardy.

Trumps not an actual Russian agent, he's just ripe for the picking. He probably looked deep into Putin's eyes and agrees with 43, that he sees the soul of a good man. Trump is the chicken in the fox house and doesn't know it.

@glitterbag,
True. And since Trump is essentially crooked, (ask the contractors who have dealt with him), Putin might be able to buy him off by doing such things as having Trump's family build luxury buildings and developments in Russia while Trump agrees to Putin-inspired agreements on NATO and foreign policy, "based on mutual interests". Trump's business interests do fine with Putin, meanwhile Putin takes victory in the Cold War right away from the US.

Great article and analysis, one thing to consider though-this year both conventions were a month earlier than most years. Usually the period of 2 weeks after the conventions is just after Labor Day. In fact, I've heard similar rules of thumb, (not necessarily backed by research), that whichever candidate is ahead after Labor Day wins the popular vote.

So the question is: Are it the conventions leaving a lasting impression on the voters' minds, or is it that Labor Day is the unofficial end of the summer and vacation time and the voters settle back in to normal life and start tuning in to the election seriously for the first time? Right now, that is not entirely clear.

@Blickers,
I think it's about consistency. What they felt at the convention is how they ended up voting. I don't think the 2-4 weeks period has no impact.

@Baldimo,
Just like climate change is a hoax cooked up by 1 million liberal scientists?

Whenever you want to ignore the truth you just rationalize by using the weakest arguments possible.

"It was said by a liberal must be a lie..." "This is a liberal source." While independents have fear mongering Jill Stein whom you must worship for her highly educated (laugh) stance on deadly diseases and the necessity for vaccinations.

Only republicans and independents tell the truth. Only Fox news can be trusted. Liberals have an "agenda"... (REALLY cynical)
