Bailout: An Inside Account of How Washington Abandoned Main Street While Rescuing Wall Street
This was book written by the Inspector General who over saw the TARP program.

Bailout: An Inside Account of How Washington Abandoned Main Street While Rescuing Wall Street

by Neil Barofsky

In telling of his stranger-than-fiction baptism into the corrupted ways of Washington, Barofsky offers an irrefutable indictment, from an insider of the Bush & Obama administrations, of the mishandling of the $700 billion TARP bailout fund. In behind-the-scenes detail, he shows the extreme degree to which government officials bent over backward to serve the interests of Wall Street firms at the expense of the public—& at the expense of effective financial reform. During the height of the financial crisis in 2008, Barofsky gave up his job as a prosecutor in the US Attorney’s Office in NYC, where he'd convicted drug kingpins, Wall Street executives & mortgage fraud perpetrators, to become the special inspector general in charge of oversight of bailout money spending. From the first his efforts to protect against fraud & to hold big banks accountable for how they spent taxpayer money were met with outright hostility from Treasury officials in charge of the bailouts.

Barofsky discloses how, in serving banking interests, Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner & his team worked with Wall Street executives to design programs to would funnel vast amounts of taxpayer money to their firms & would have allowed them to game the markets & make huge profits with almost no risk or accountability, while repeatedly fighting efforts to put the necessary fraud protections in place. His investigations also uncovered abject mismanagement of the bailout of insurance giant AIG & Geithner’s decision to allow the payment of millions of dollars in bonuses & that the Obama administration’s TARP Czar lobbied for the executives to retain their high pay....

@bobsal u1553115,
When they were bailed out, many of the officers took huge bonuses. Too big to fail is an oxymoron when it applies to Wall Street.

@cicerone imposter,
And then when Congress brought them to Congress to discuss that, they showed up in pricey private jets.

Democrats Are Now Favored To Win Back The Senate Thanks To Trump and Cruz

Stuart Rothenberg examined the shift in the battle for control of the Senate:

Up to this point, the burden of proof has been on Democrats to demonstrate that they can oust four or five Republican senators and win control of the chamber. But now, with Republicans in disarray and the party flirting with selecting a weak general election nominee, the benefit of the doubt has shifted away from the GOP and to the Democrats.

….

At least five incumbent GOP senators from Democratic-leaning or competitive states were facing difficult re-election races this year even under the most favorable circumstances – Mark Kirk of Illinois, Ron Johnson of Wisconsin, Pat Toomey of Pennsylvania, Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire and Rob Portman of Ohio. A Republican open seat in Florida also looked at great risk.

Add in the deep division within the Republican Party, and the possibility of Trump or Cruz leading the national GOP ticket, and all – or at least almost all – of those races suddenly look much more uphill. In addition, states like North Carolina, Indiana, Missouri and Arizona look more interesting.

Still disgusted that the GOP still swears they will back the nominee even if its Trump! They will sell out just to save their brand! If dems did same I would swear independant before backing a fool like Trump. I have Repub friends that feel out of the race period. Idk if they can vote for Clinton, but sure cant vote for Trump. The GOP started out great! Lincoln! He was a Repub. he fought for equal rights and the dems hated him. Then along comes Johnson. He is not credited like he should for the civil rights laws we have today. He was a TX democrat. The racist dems of his day, going back to Lincoln, hated him, so switched parties to Republican. Its been that way ever since...racist haters of acceptance and change.
I mentioned in a past post I was an Independant until Obama. That was until it becme abundantly clear, that the GOP are entitled scum that refuse to get on board with the future.
When I see town hall meetings for the GOP candidates and the only representatives there are grey haired old people, thats a problem. They are such a small, short term, issue in the grand scheme of things. No offense to the old people of our country, but Im not thrilled your vote determines the future of my kids.

@Lilkanyon,
They are grey haired and uneducated. Many of them believe Trump is wealthy through his expertise in finance, but the reality is, he inherited his wealth. He's the guy who says he's going to "make America great again." No details. The US economy is now the best on this planet - even while Asia and Europe stagnates.
He's the guy who imports cheap labor from third world countries. Hold onto your money, because he's a scam artist.

@cicerone imposter,
Yes, i know...and the young he recruits are the white racists. Did you see recently blacks were kicked out of his rally before he even took the podium? They were not even protestors. But he fears them so much, especially in numbers, he kicks them before the cameras turn on. Hes scum.

@TheCobbler,
I have two, born disabled kids, and I hate Trump. If it were up to him, he would throw them in an institution and brag how he saved the country from the scourge of the disabled. He scares and infuriates me. Hes a liar and doesnt give a crap about anyone except getting his face in a portrait in the white house or some kids presidential ruler they hand out in grade school.
Seeing him mock a man injured by tragedy, I cant even begin to describe how I feel.

@Lilkanyon,
Don't worry too much! Trump doesn't have a prayer. oops, any chance. He's an avowed racial bigot, and most Americans know that.
I worked as the Director of Administration at a nonprofit organization that provides services to the disabled. They do a fantastic job.
Before I worked for them, I used to do consulting work to make money. After they became one of my clients, i got so involved with them that I dropped my consulting business and worked for them full time.

@cicerone imposter,
He still terrifies me. Idk that I trust our country anymore. If Clinton makes one gaff, can he win it? It seems so preposterous to me but...where I used to have hope with Obama...now I just see ignorant hate. I am more disgusted by our country then I ever thought I could be.

@Lilkanyon,
He terrifies a lot of people. The only problem is, the people who support Trump are more verbose. We have other choices during election time: Pick the candidate you think best meets your ideal.
