Here's the scenario - Congress finishes their January 6th invesfigations that prove Trump and associates are obviously guilty of.an attempted Insurrection. They turn the case over to the Justice Department who immediately publish felony charges against Trump and associates.

Because of the gravity of the charges, Trump and associates ( let's say - 30 or 40 close associates including Congress persons and Senators) are arrested because of the severity of charges and risk factors. Because FBI and DOJ are:

* so deliberate and slow,
* have Republican and Trump lackeys on their staffs,
* Trump and associates will slow.things down and grow wrenches
into the cogs of Justice,
* etc;

trials are not set to start before summer of 2024.

Trump wins the Republican nomination for the 2024 Presidential election! Trump wins the election!

The trial has not occurred yet; so, the obvious guilt has not been legally decided either. What happens now?

Seems almost a dead-set certainty, considering the complete lack of D hopefuls on the card.

VERY realistic sounding scenario, Bill...and I suspect the one that will happen. The only possible variation comes in your penultimate paragraph...with the Republican candidate, whether Trump or a Trump stooge, losing.

Even if that happens, I suspect the abomination, Trump, will manage to get away with what happened. His followers are too blind to the horrendous implications of that happening.

The generations now alive have sadly failed at our job of protecting the Republic in our temporary custody. This may be the end of it.

It's odd to be forced to defend and root for Liz Cheney a staunch conservative who basically stands for everything I'm against. She is the daughter of Dick Cheney a generally repulsive conservative and former vice president of George W. Bush.

But Liz Cheney is under attack by Trump Republicans who are Republicans in name only. They are reactionary at best and fascist in intent and only need power to institute a one party state.

Liz Cheney realizes that Republicans now are intent on overthrowing the democracy itself, the two party state, and circumventing the will of the people through the vote. It is a true valiant and patriotic attempt on her part to save this democracy by convincing the people of the threat of the extremist Republicans.

I would have bet the ranch that I would never be defending here in any way for anything. But she has put herself on the line big time. She deserves our respect for her effort no matter how far she is from our overall political leanings.
