Did Trump say he'll "permanently defund social security" if re-elected? No.

Quote:
Shortly after President Trump's Saturday news conference announcing several executive orders, numerous analysts and political figures falsely claimed that he'd announced plans to "permanently defund Social Security" and/or Medicare if he's re-elected.

Trump never said that.

President Trump did announce a temporary deferral of those taxes for some Americans as part of coronavirus economic relief.

The president also stated that if he's re-elected, he would like to make those cuts permanent.

His critics, including a flurry of people on Twitter, claimed Social Security would, in effect, be defunded as a result of cuts in payroll taxes.

What many people missed, and what was not mentioned in widely circulated articles in the New York Times and Washington Post, is that the deferral applies to Americans earning under about $104,000 a year.

Higher income earners and their employers still have to pay into the pot.

I guess telling the whole story is not the media's job anymore. Lying by omission is lying. Attkisson is a very credible journalist that can still be believed. The NYT or the WP is fresh out of those.

@coldjoint,
What nonsensical paranoia. Typical right wing conspiracy theory fantasy.China didn;'t spread covid. Nature did. That's what viral epidemics do, in spite of us. No lies from Demos, but atemptted indifference from trump and repeated lies and distortions. It's a demo hoax, 15 cases and they'll all magically disappear, it'll go away in summer, only a few deaths. all Trumpain nonsense. 163,0009 deaths, many times the usual seasonal flu deaths. Other countries controlled it, or dealt with it fsar better than trump has done.. It's on his head. Vote straigth blue in Nov., turn the scoundrel out of office. Save the contry.

China let people from Wuhan travel all over the world after they knew they were probably infected. That is spreading the disease.

@MontereyJack,
Don't you know? China was the one who sat on their fat ass in the White House and did nothing for months but spread lies and make things worse.

China was out playing golf while hundreds of thousand of Americans were dying.

China told the American people not to wear face masks and it would go away by itself. China visited our states and shamed governors for not reopening business as usual. China sent armed, racist vigilantes to state houses demanding them to put Americans at greater risk!

China disbanded our public pandemic response and worried more about a certain presidential reelection than helping Americans who were dying.

China cut funds to our social security, medicare and tried relentlessly to try and obliterate health insurance as we know it leaving millions of Americans uninsured.

It is all China's fault! (cynical)

Chicago is Everytown, America Under Democrat Rule

Do Democrats think people like to live this way? They must, they are doing nothing to change it.

Chicago has exploded again as the Democrat-sponsored domestic terrorist groups Antifa and Black Lives Matter ramp up the chaos amid the feckless, demonic lack of leadership by communist Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot. Hundreds of rioters took to the streets of the Second City last night, looting stores all over town, including downtown Chicago’s vaunted “Miracle Mile,” which this morning looked like the local garbage dump.

Here are some highlights:

The Republican Senate nightmare is coming true

The Cook Political Report, a non-partisan campaign handicapping site, wrote
late last month: "Almost 100 days out, democrats are favored to take back
the Senate."

"Ultimately, every day that Trump stubbornly refuses to change course is
another day that it becomes increasingly likely he may not only tank his own
re-election bid but could be on a kamikaze mission to take the Republican-held
Senate down with him. At this point, a net gain of five to seven seats for
Democrats looks far more probable than the one to three seat gain that
would leave them shy of a majority...

@Region Philbis,
Everything I'm reading suggests that if the pundits can't give a clear win to Biden on the presidency ON THE NIGHT means Trump will have enough justification to stick around, so don't rely on postal votes - he's already laid the ground for deligitamising them.

I also read that your presidential election results can/have never been finalised on election night - it's a furphy introduced in the fifties when analysis 'predicted' the results - a substantial postal vote may mean the apparent result on the night is not even close to the actual result.

If the results are not called on Election Night...Trump will be president for life in America.

Best that everyone realize that!

Your angst on this issue is understandable, but I think the conclusion you draw is a mite too severe. See Frank, I don’t think there’s any possible way the result could be called on election night, with all the exigent circumstances facing the country - first and foremost a pandemic that has complicated every election or any other official gathering together of people this year. With one very specific exception - that the numbers in every poll, vote count and pundit speculation are so overwhelmingly in Biden’s favor that it makes waiting on a final result moot. It’s the scenario I’ll be hoping for - but the only one that will allow us to exhale and relax on the evening of November 3rd, 2020.

I am a little uptight on this matter, Snood.

A Republic is one very tough entity to keep functioning.

Rome did it for almost 500 years...(longest Republic ever!)...but it was gone in a day. (Yeah, it was years in the making, but it went from a Republic to a dictatorship in a relative eyeblink.)

Hate to say this, but we have a larger percentage of ignorant savages willing to turn our Republic into a dictatorship than Rome.

I'm hoping you are correct. We'll see. November is gonna be one very interesting month.
