I have told this story on a2k before but here it is again.

I worked at a convenience store once and it was 3am in the morning.
Earlier that evening I had refused to sell a 17 year old male cigarettes.

The store was located in a large metro and I was alone in the store out back and I was putting away a milk order when he entered the cooler where I was. He came in with a shotgun and I startled him.

He screamed at me waving the gun.

I kept telling him "You are not going to shoot me"...

I backed up and walked him from the back cooler towards the cash register up front.

Once we reached the front of the store he briefly looked out the window turning his head for a slight moment and the gun was mine. I grabbed it right out of his hands. I was so full of adrenalin I picked the guy right up in my arms, walked him over to the door, kicked the door open with my leg and threw him and his gun out of the store. ...and said, "Get out!" (in hindsight it is kinda funny hehe)

He had a buddy in the parking lot waiting. They both came over and tried to re-enter the store. There were two double glass doors and they were attempting to pull them open while I was barely able to hold them shut.

Finally the kid took the butt of the gun and smashed out the glass in the door. There was glass everywhere. I was then standing face to face with both of them.

Without even flinching I looked the kid in the eyes and said calmly but with a bit of a smile, "The cops are coming.".

He said excitedly, "Ohhh!" ...and they both ran off.

I was completely bluffing, I had not had time to push the silent alarm button it was behind the counter.

I did not need a gun, I actually took his gun and then I used only my wits and a bit of brute to defuse the situation.

He bragged about it to some friends and one of them turned him in and I identified his photo in a book down at the police station a couple days later.

I quit that job the next day and found another one.

After that all the convenience stores started a policy of mandatory at least two workers at night and put surveillance cameras in all the convenience stores in the city.

I was written up in the newspaper as a "hero"...

I felt lousy actually, not sure if this story has a point at all. I hate guns and violence, though I am not anti-gun just, strongly, pro-regulation.

@TheCobbler,
Would you recommend for others to react the way you did? I think you could have handled it a little smarter (for instance NOT including the guys gun when you threw him out), but in any case congratulations on surviving that incident.

@TheCobbler,
A couple hundred years ago vs modern day Muslim extremism? Christianity has advanced in the last few hundred years, Islam has not. The current crises in the ME proves this.

You and Izzy, anything you can do to make radical Islam seem like it is nothing.

@snood,
Exactly Snood, throwing the gun out with him was not perhaps wise but it worked out in the end.

When he came into the store earlier in the day he walked in with his hoodie covering his face and walked over to the drinks area then walked over to me at the cash register. There were a lot of people in the store at the time, he said, "You are going to sell me cigarettes!" Like he owned the place... I was very firm and said, "Not if you don't have a valid ID.". When he left he pounded the large window I was behind by the cash register with the side part of his fist. It rattled very loud but did not break. Most of the customers jumped and one woman let out a scream.

He had a front tooth the protruded in front of his other front tooth and he was a white guy.

I felt bad because he was only 17 and I would assume he did time for that incident. I really felt bad...

I wish there had been a better way to handle it. I worried about running into him one day walking on the street but I have never seen him since. It has been over 15 years since the incident but I would remember his face if I saw him again.

The night it happened my boss (who came to the store in the middle of the night) asked me if I would be in the next day and I said, "Sure I thrive on this kind of stuff." I was used to calling the cops every single day (sometimes several times) for the common occurrence of beer theft. (People don't steal beer much anymore with the cameras there...)

The next day I was in a sort of shock and quit my job.

The other man that was with him appeared to be in his mid to late 20's, he was tall with bushy blond hair and looked like a goon...

I have a scary gun story, too.
I was pretty down and out and I took a job as an attendant at a seedy pool hall in a bad part of town. I was probably 20 or so years old.
My job was to basically sit at the cash register and occasionally provide needed items - a cue, some chalk, a towel, etc. I was the only 'staff' there with all the shady guys gambling a dollar a ball.

The very first evening just a few minutes before closing, a wild eyed looking guy walks quickly up to me at the register and says "My partner outside has a double barrel shotgun pointed right at your chest, and he'll blow you away if you con't give me the money in that box". I had no real reason to doubt that what he said was true, but I took a chance that he was lying and told him he'd better leave because I just pressed a silent alarm buzzer and the police would be there very quickly (there was no alarm, and the police didn't frequent that area).
The scary looking guy and I stared at each other for a couple of tense seconds, then he backed out the way he had come in. I locked the door and called the lady who had hired me. She lived above the pool hall so she was there immediately. She listened to my story and said "I should have told you there is a 38 snub-nose in the back of the drawer - you could have used it!"

Now, here I am, a terrified punk who was basically peeing my pants over the whole thing who had just had an attempted robbery, getting instructions from my seedy boss that I could have defended the seedy pool hall if I'd just pulled the gun and shot somebody - on the first (and last, by the way) night I worked there. All I remember is telling her "I can't work here:, and getting like 20 dollars for my 6 hours of work and beating feet the hell out of there.

True story from Fayetteville, NC (AKA "Fayette- Nam") in the late 1970's.

If you are hurt, it is your own fault, and terribly conflicted about a lifestyle you are supposedly so proud of.

Which is it?

I have no problems with what I say or what others think. Especially when they choose to give away what I and others have earned to whiners and manufactured victims. Their disregard for personal responsibility as a way to live and the influence on our culture is ruining this country.

Keep whining, at least here people are listening. Out in the real world they are fed up with the tears.

@Baldimo,
So as long as Christianity is better than radical Islam it can do what the **** it wants. IS burnt some pilots alive in a cage so that's setting the bar pretty high.

I can see why you find it so easy to shrug off all those college killings.
