Do you condone the businesses that raise exotic animals to be hunted for their heads?

When trophy animals are shot and killed, do you blame the hunter or the gun?

Actually it was to Oralloy. And your question to me is a non-sequitur attempt at raising stink for you to wallow in, and I pass.

@snood,
oralloy lives in his own bubble world, it is an exercise in futility trying to engage in a meaningful discussion with him. They are no shades of grey with him. To him I imagine there is no difference in a hunter who hunts for deer which if over populated is a danger on the roads and a hunter who hunts for endangered animals just for the trophy. I always thought it was a crying shame to hunt and kill elephants just for their tusk.

Yeah, it is a crying pitiful shame. And those who participate in it are usually too ashamed to even speak or let their picture be taken publicly. Even worse than the people who participate in these hunts are the ones whose business is to raise up these poor animals for the sole purpose of being "hunted" in a controlled environment (which basically amounts to dressed-up slaughter).

Of course. Ranches that raise endangered species for hunting are often the only thing preserving these animals from extinction.

The most notable example of this is the Scimitar Oryx:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scimitar_oryx

A few years ago, anti-hunting vermin severely curtailed the Texas ranches that were the only reason this species wasn't already extinct. It was covered on 60 Minutes:
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/can-hunting-endangered-animals-save-the-species/
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/can-hunting-endangered-animals-save-the-species/2/
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/can-hunting-endangered-animals-save-the-species/3/
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/can-hunting-endangered-animals-save-the-species/4/

The result of this debacle was that the worldwide population of these animals plunged dramatically since the hunting ranches couldn't afford to keep them anymore. Luckily the law has since been changed to allow such ranch hunting to resume, and their population numbers are growing again:

Unfortunately no one has jailed the anti-hunting vermin who caused the debacle to begin with.

That depends. If you don't like hearing inconvenient facts, I suppose conversing with me could be uncomfortable.

revelette2 wrote:

Depends. I imagine there might be some circumstances where nuance is important.

But if someone is trying to justify evil by referring to shades of grey, I refuse to play along.

There was a recent event in one of RexRed's threads where some female hunter was very happy to pose next to a giraffe she had just downed.

I tried to find out what caliber gun she used. No luck on that front, but in searching I did find out that there are lots of women who like to shoot giraffe and pose next to the kill.

What caliber did she use?

I tried to find out which caliber she used, but no luck.

It is clear though that she is not the only woman hunter in Africa:

Actually those giraffe hunting posts were in this very thread.
