i wrote in my writing exercise:
gregor Mendel, now know as the father of Genetic Science,...... It wasn't until 34 years after his work was originally published, 16years after his death, that his work was rediscovered. ...... But is this the universal principle that the greatness of individuals can be determined only by later-coming ones? Certainly not, in some other cases, individual greatness could and even need to be decided by the contemporaries.
i am not sure if these wordings are used correctly?
1)later-coming
2)in some other cases
3)could or can
4)wording

thank you

You use the gerund (-ing form) a bit too much.

1 ) The phrase "later-coming ones is awkward".

You could write this sentence

"But is this the universal principle that the greatness of individuals can be determined on by the ones that come later?"

English teachers will tell you to avoid the passive voice. It is probably better to write this.

"But is this the universal principle that it is those who come later determine the greatness of an individual?"

2) The phrase "in some other cases" is fine. However, the "certainly not" is not correct. This should be written as another sentence. I would try...

"This is certainly not the case. In some other cases..."

(Actually I may drop the "in some other cases" in this case since it is not necessary).

3) Your use of the word "could" is correct, however the word "need" should be "needs" (singular) since it goes with "greatness" (also singular). I would also include the word "be" with "could". This would look like this...

"... individual greatness could be and even needs to be ..."

4) "wordings" is not correct. Again you are not using the gerund properly. I would write this.

"I am not sure if I have worded these correctly.

Good luck.
