A question on interpreting the meaning of a sentence due to the word with.

Which of the following gives the most likely explanation for why a child born to an unaffected parent with an increased number of CAG repeats might exhibit symptoms of Huntington’s disease?

Does the word after parent, with, mean that the parent has an increased number of CAG repeats, or does this mean the child born has the CAG repeats?

Thanks Grammar Forums!

@shangriphysics,
The parent is the first one with the "CAG repeats", otherwise "the parent" does not need to be mentioned. The child presumably inherits the genes of the parent, including the "CAG repeats" so the problem is about the why the child is affected by the disease but not the adult.
