I'm not so sure about the difference between spelling and spellings. Is spelling supposed to be plural when you talk about how to spell multiple words? Spellings of words, or just spelling of words, which is correct?

Spelling as a general concept:
The correct spelling of words is important.
Individual instances:
These spellings are incorrect: hott, kold, warmm, freazing.
