Do you think that we should allow individuals who were not born in this country to be eligible to serve as president?

@mizztaurus86,
I have no opinion on the "should" part of the question but I do know that to amend the Constitution is a complicated business and isn't going to happen.

I think anyone who is, at birth, entitled to US citizenship should be able to become President.
That includes people who are citizens by descent.
In short, any "natural-born citizen" as defined below:

Quote:
The weight of legal and historical authority indicates that the term “natural born” citizen would
mean a person who is entitled to U.S. citizenship
“by birth” or “at birth,” either by being born
“in” the United States and under its jurisdiction, even those born to alien parents; by being born
abroad to U.S. citizen-parents
; or by being born
in other situations meeting legal requirements for
U.S. citizenship “at birth.” Such term, however
, would not include a person who was not a U.S.
citizen by birth or at birth, and who was thus born an “alien” required to go through the legal
process of “naturalization” to become a U.S. citizen.

Not applicable really, as this country doesn't have a President.
As far as Prime Minister is concerned, all you have to prove is that either you're a toff or an idiot, or sometimes both.

@Lordyaswas,
In Germany, the office of president is open to all Germans who are entitled to vote in Bundestag (parliament) elections and have reached the age of 40.

Chancellor (head of the government) can be any German, who is above 18.

@mizztaurus86,
Yes.

I have no problem with any US citizen who can win a presidential election serving as president.

I see no reason, other than tradition, for the restriction.

Well, of course, in addition to 'tradition' there is this thing called the U.S. Constitution. (No, I'm not talking about 'Old Ironsides.')

@mizztaurus86,
If we had the same kind of rule in Australia my children who are citizens and have lived here since they were 2 and 4 wouldn't be eligible and I would think it was extremely unfair and unnecessary.
