@spikepipsqueak,
Man of distinction was Judy Patching. To the Australian public he is best remembered as the bloke waving the chief starter’s gun at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics and never had a false start.

@Dutchy,
Start reminiscing and we might not stop, but I heard that he was required to discipline Ron Clarke? for his stand in support of a black power issue. He called Ron in and said "Consider yourself reprimanded, now, how many tickets do you want for the hockey?"

@spikepipsqueak,
Hockey may will have been Ron Clarke's favourite sport but it was the late Peter Norman who joined Tommie Smith and John Carlos on the dais for their medals after the 200m in Mexico wearing a civil rights badge. Judy Patching died in February aged 92, former athletes and Olympic officials were among those who gathered to farewell a much-loved Olympic identity at a memorial service in Melbourne yesterday.

@Dutchy,
Yesterday has only been gone 25 minutes here. How long has it been gone where you are?

@spendius,
Are you one who is curious about all sorts of stuff? It was 9.44am at time of posting.

(Thanks Dutchy. I was pretty sure it wasn't Clarke, but couldn't dredge Norman out of the little grey cells.)

@spikepipsqueak,
Posting that tells me that you are about 2,000 miles west of Hollywood. Is that in the Pacific Ocean?

Australia will win the upcoming Test Series and take the Ashes back home. Should they fail I shall shout Spendi a drink.

Drink to me only with thine eyes,And I will pledge with mine; Or leave a kiss within the cup And I'll not ask for wine. The first lines of Ben Jonson's song To Celia which is great to sing if the ambience is in order.

@spendius,
"Order up! Last drinks!" Used to be the trigger for mayhem at 6pm in Australian pubs.

@spikepipsqueak,
Pubs in the outback are great places to visit. Anybody interested in experiencing true outback pub hospitality and folklore history can find many examples here.

@Dutchy,
Here and there, walking in the wilderness, one comes across the greater titted wagtail flitting from branch to branch. It is best to treat them with circumspection.

@spendius,
Circumspection required? That sounds like a cute, harmless little bird.

@spikepipsqueak,
Bird watching is an interesting pastime. Usually takes place in the bush or on the beach.

Beach holidays form some of the magic memories of many people's childhoods. I am one of those.

Those were the days eh? Before one matured and turned into a silly sod.

@spendius,
Sod is usually a term reserved for a grumpy old man. I like to state I do not fall within that category yet.

Said by people I can't agree with. I find men are typically smart, funny, some are even affectionate, just reeaaally shallow. Wink (ducks and runs)
