@spikepipsqueak,
"Fly me to the moon", is a pop song written by Bart Howard and first recorded by Kaye Ballard and later by others including Frank Sinatra, Johnny Mathis, Nat King Cole and Doris Day. It seems a rather silly idea to me as I don't fancy being flown to the moon.

(spikie-- no. I'm only ever spendi and I'm only ever on A2K. But I'm interested and would be grateful if you could link me to the person.)

@spendius,
Moon journeys do interest me. At 1/6th gravity, given an atmosphere, strap on wings and a large enough space, I think humans would be capable of flight.

(He posts on FRDB, which you can google. No big deal, his thinking and expression are very similar to your own. You know when people insist you've met before IRL? I'm doing it to you on the interwebs.) Very Happy

@spikepipsqueak,
Flight of fancy I think you're pursuing spikepipsqueak. Spendi only ever appears on a2k, and mention cricket you can't stop him.

Him's da man on cricket then. "I think the seagull on the left has had a haircut, Ritchie."

@spikepipsqueak,
Richie Benaud, to give him his proper name, is a man all cricket fans admire. His performance as a vibrant and up-to-date commentator when he is actually in the later stages of senility is a wonder to behold and an inspiration to us all.

(Thanks spikie- I'll check Cap out and report back if there's anything to report.)

@spendius,
All the cricket-lovers I have met have a sense of order and a real passion. Lacking all that, to me it's a relaxing noise in the background.

@spikepipsqueak,
Background music is very useful as it drowns out sounds which can start off bouts of tittering in certain circumstances. Brass band recordings at high volume are the most efficient.

@spendius,
Efficient thinking keeps your life in order and all your ducks in a row, but sometimes you have to lie in the long grass and think about nothing. ' Course, that's just a matter of opinion.

@spikepipsqueak,
Opinion is something one hears a lot of when standing at a bar late at night. You can get confused if you take any notice of any of it.

It's interesting to hear what other people have to say. You're right, I'd hate to use it to guide my life.

Life is just a bowl of cherries somebody once said. I don't know who it was but he was obviously well fixed.

@spendius,
Fixed my hair differently yesterday as it was so windy. I wore it tied back to keep it out of my face and was told by several people that I should wear it like that more often.

Often wonder what would have happened if I had stayed in Europe. Having spent a lifetime downunder it does occupy my mind frequently of late.

@Dutchy,
Late last night I saw a middle-aged lady on her first visit to the pub after she had had a £4,000 "boob job" as she called it. She looked like she had been inflated with a stirrup pump.

(You'll do your head in Dutch occupying your mind with stuff like that. My parents met in a kerfuffle in a revolving door to a posh hotel.)

@spendius,
It was actually even funnier than that. He was only in the town for a cup-tie replay as a result of a missed penalty.

@spendius,
'Pump it Up' is a song by Elvis Costello, a musician whose voice only grows stronger as he ages. He's an Irish rebel and rabble rouser whose acerbic, witty lyrics and sense of melody appeal to many, including me, (even though I have to admit he can be somewhat of an affected weirdo), and I also think he's someone who could do the subject of a 4,000 pound boob job on a middle-aged woman some sort of musical and poetic justice.

Justice for alleged sexual infidelities in Iran is death by stoning. I can't believe this barbaric practice is tolerated by the rest of the world.

@aidan,
Continue on with the subject of justice, how about this, an Australian swimming champion was barred from the Beijing Olympic Games for assaulting another swimmer, this week he was put on a bond by a magistrate for this assault, and he was promptly banned again from attending the London Olympic Games by the Australian Swimming Association despite letting him compete in last month's National Championships which he won! Do you think this is fair?

@Dutchy,
Fair doesn't seem to be a consideration for the ruling bodies of sports in Australia. I was sorry to hear that Judy Patching had died, though; there was a truly good man.
