Just a couple of days before the 60th anniversary of D_Day - and as a German - I do think that this is neither funny nor sardonic humor but really a wicked pissah.

Walter, have you noticed that right wing conservatives tend to use vicious disdain while liberals tend to use mocking humor? Why do you suppose that is the case?

Just hitting a little too close to home with this thread, cav.
Strike out:
Conservative humor: an oxymoron.

Not for me, I'm Canadian.
I don't know if anyone recalls, but there were extremely strong differences of opinion on the United States entering the first World War, and at least as strong on getting into the second, which only ended with the attacks on Pearl Harbor and Clark AFB.
Our military envolvement in began when, and only when Germany declared war on the US. If you don't believe that, there are some reliable history books available on Amazon, and elsewhere. At that, our involvement was relatively small, if you will believe most Australians and New Zealanders, and all Russians. In a relative, per capita respect, they are correct.
(Your headlines read more like what the conservative Republicans in the legislature were saying about the war).
(Pat Buchanan where are you when we need you?)
