Is it Green or just being Cheap?

So we moved to a new "green" building. Work spaces are much smaller, lights go off at your desk if you don't move enough, you need to flash your id to print anything off the printer or to make copies.

The worst is we have these tiny trash baskets at our desk. Seriously they are 6 inches tall and we do not have anyone come by to clean our trash we are expected to empty our own trash. And we have recycling up the whazzoo - you are not supposed to print stuff; just do things on line.

So is this green stuff simply an excuse to be cheap? It is cool to be green.

My customer/client company buries 5,000 ton of refuse, in the UK alone, weekly.
So, no. Your silly bin is a superficial, pointless gesture of ignorance.

Doesn't really matter what kind of company it is, does it?

I once worked for a steel fabricator that formed an energy committee to determine how to conserve energy. This was in '73 with an oil embargo, or shortly there after. The solution? Turn off some lights. I figured out they didn't want to do anything at all, but wanted the grunts to go off feeling they had "Participated" in the decision to work in the gloom.

Meaning a financial company typically is more concerned about making profits than whether they are helping environment -- especially financial companies as supposedly that is their expertise making the highest returns possible - otherwise they would not have many clients.

Surely you don't work the counter at the Walmart Financial Services desk? Seriously, they've got that now, but I'm not sure what they do. Transfer money to El Salvador, maybe.
