{My husband was injured on the job and required rotater cuff surgery , during Preop, he was told to quit smoking and drinking for 3 days (day before-day of & day after) he followed these instructions, they were aware husband drank alcohol 4-5 beers every day for app. 30 years and shot of liqor once day for last year, when they instructed him to quit drinking, they did not give him anything to withdraw such as ativan-?-or whatever it is thats required. my husband had surgery sept 24 2014 outpatient, day after he felt confused and nervous, 2 days after he was feeling parnoid and jittery and confused, on Sat the 3rd day after surgery his friend(who was sitting with him while I worked) told me when I called to check on him that he didnt seem right,said the dogs started barking at my husbands feet and then husband stood up looked confused started shaking moderatly his eyes look dazed and confused sat down and had no recollection of what had happened but was scared, I called his surgery doctor immediatle whom was on call and told him what happened and was concerned of withdraw from surgery medications (pain blocker pump which was removed 2nd day) he assured me it was nothing and not to worry. After I came home about 2 hr later within 20 minutes my husband was in full blown seizure for about 7 min, and then a second, ambulance took him the ER where he had 2 more seizures at this time, after filling Er in on everything that happened surgery on, they informed me he should NEVER had quit cold turkey with his alcohol history, that it could be deadly he was DTing Withdrawing .Hallucinating for three days this went on, I thought I was going to lose him, his sodium dropped to 115 required sodium levels are 136-146, -sat admitted to er, sunday morning to Sicu and sunday night to hospital room on monday I called the surgery doctors office and explained what had happened and what doctors said in er, sicu,& hospital room, about he shouldnt have quit drinking on his own, and she stated NO he shouldnt have quit cold turkey, I then said You guys Told him to !!! she then started stumbling with her words ,saying we should of explained better, Normally people dont follow the instructions on preop, I then stated well, HE DID and now hes IN hospital..--------------------------------------------------

@greengurl,
... and what are you looking for from us? We can give you neither medical nor legal advice. Want to contact his regular physician? Feel free, and ask whether the instructions were correct, etc. The question as to whether you have a case is one for a lawyer. You know, someone you go to in person and actually pay money to for their time.
