You can probably guess what I first thought when I read the following headline:

Very Happy Razz Laughing

What a delight to discover that some universities possess a sense of humor.

Phoenix, thanks! That's a great link. It helps me to better understand my American colleagues. And now I know that I really don't need to know all these expressions they are using so happily. I was indeed wondering what 'pro-active' is supposed to mean...

Thank Heavens
Thank Heavens, for this:

(From the article):

"...Irritating to many contributors were the overused "having said that" and "that said," to which David Patrick of Indiana said: "I heard you the first time."

Those two expressions are at the top of my "most annoyingly redundant" expressions, followed by being at the top of my list for "most irritating."

Followed by, "I think that (something)," and "in my opinion, (something is...)."

Because, if you're writing an opinion, it's a given it's your opinion, and, same with the "I think..." line.

Who coined "pushing the envelope"? Hey, I could have looked it up, but I'm too weary at this "point in time" to further explore this "scenario".

Hey, HtheB. How's Havaii? Do you guys still sing in your chains like the sea?

Humsthebird, I assumed that you were from Hawaii. Some time back I wrote an e-mail to someone in Hawaii trying to ascertain what to do with my bird-of-paradise bush. In a couple of exchanges, I asked about Hawaii, and his reply was: " We just sing in our chains like the sea." I liked the phrase, but did not understand its relevancy. Just thought that I would try it to see if you did.

Could it be the "chains of taxation"?

Hey, New Haven,

Well, chains can represent a lot of things, but how does the sea come into it? I'm supposing that it's comparable to "The Navy Hymn";

".......who bids the mighty ocean deep, its own appointed limits keep...."

Incidentally, that is a beautiful and moving song.

How about a "sea of tears"?

"I cried a river over you".

Well, New Haven, I've been banned from singing on A2K, and it's a good thing, cause I don't know "Sea of Tears".

HOWEVER,

Now you say you love me,
And just to prove
that it's true,
Come on and cry me a river,
Cry me a river,
I've cried a river over you.

Now you say you're sorry,
You never were untrue.
Come on and cry me a river,
Cry me a river,
I cried a river over you.

Bridge:
You drove me nearly drove me out of my head
While you never shed a tear.
Remember, I remember all that you said
Told me love was too plebian,
Told me you were through with me, and
(uhoh! forgot one of the verses)
