I put on weight when I was on anti-depressents, but I don't believe it was a side effect of the medication. I was simply eating better because I didn't feel bad all the time. Is that possible in this case.

Looks like this medication has numerous potential side effects. I don't see weight gain mentioned on this site.

Most anti-depressants have side effects, but they tend to reduce over time.

Milller, Thanks for the link about Lexapro. It doesn't say anything about weight gain.

Wilso, That makes sense when I think about it, maybe it is because she is feeling better. Thanks! The information on the link doesn't say anthing about weight gain.

The S/Es noted are frequently patient specific. While some individuals may gain weight, others could lose weight.

It's all in the genes, folks!

I find it truly amazing that these so called "anti-depressants" cause weight gain, impotence, infertility and all the other things that would MAKE me depressed! I would like to find a drug that nakes me happy, lose weight and gives me a raging hard on!

I've never heard of weight gain from anti-depressants, but as I said above, people tend to eat better because they're feeling better. They generally don't cause impotence, but a reduction in sexual sensitivity and ejaculatory delay (in males) is common in the early stages of medication. But most of the side effects do generally wear off.

I might suggest a 'cocktail' of Zoloft, Viagra, Trim-Spa and Vodka.
