i don't understand this
can you explain me how to recognise when its a complement and when an object

I don't understand what you mean. In the sentence you give -- "That book is mine" -- the word "mine" is a possessive pronoun. I don't know what you mean by "complement" or how a pronoun could be an object in this context.
