4 years ago I lost 50 pounds. I got lazy gained 15 back. Now I'm trying to lose it and it's not going. I might go down 2 pounds but then it comes right back. I'm ready to throw in the towel and just stay this way even though I'm not happy about it. Help!

@tere531,
Keep an honest and thorough food and exercise log. Use an online app if that helps. I use a free one called lose it.com.

Change up your exercise routine. If you mostly walk, try swimming. If you mostly do aerobics, try some strength training.

Change out your protein sources. If you eat a lot of beef, try fish. If you eat a lot of fish, try dairy or soy.

The idea is to wake up your metabolism and make it do something other than the usual routine. Sometimes adding a couple hundred calories to your day can convince the body it is not being starved and can let go of the stored fat.

Congratulations on your progress. Remember to acknowledge what you've done so far. It isn't easy. I just pushed through a plateau of my own. Tracking my food told me too many carbs were sneaking back into my life. I cleaned them out of my life again and went back to the basics that work for me.

The scale has started moving again.

@Butrflynet,
I'd add to this - drink water and watch your salt intake.

@tere531,
I give myself incentives. Like when I drop to 150 I can have 48 oz of ice cream

Some years ago I had a severe throat infection fo 10 days and couldn't swallow a thing, just a few painful sips of soup and water now and again, and I lost truckloads of pounds. Afterwards when i was able to eat again I was soon back to my normal weight.
So the moral seems to be- if you want to slim, cut right down on your food

It is a good thing to lose weight and also to be on track, but don't too much worry about your scale and weight. Only focus on your weight loss plan.

@AnnYoung,

Ironically , the more you eat of the right foods , the faster you lose weight

Three main meals , three snacks , per day

And get your carbs from vegetables , not potatoes or pastas

Try this site , for support and knowledge :

@north,
Potatoes and pasta are fine in moderation, as part of a meal, as is rice.

Disagree

Potatoes are quickly turned into sugars and pastas are high in carbohydrates .

Rice , preferably brown rice , but still is a carbohydrate

But yes in moderation .

You can get carbohydrates from veggies alone.
