Hello
In the song "Such a shame" of Talk Talk,
we can hear 'Number me with haste".
What is the meaning of 'number' in this case?
Thank you.
@milimi,
Mil it might help if you were to include pertinent verse
Meanwhile look here for pertinent verbs

@dalehileman,
Here is the text of the song:
" It's a shame
Such a shame
Number me with rage
It's a shame
Such a shame
Number me in haste
Such a shame
This eagerness to change
It's a shame
The words of pop songs don't have to mean anything. Often, the tune is created and then any words that fit are added.
@milimi,
It's crap, and not worthy of attention.

It's bullshit. Illogical and meaningless.
Though my intuition tells that "number me with rage" might refer to "catch me as if I am a number nailed to a board and fill me with rage".
I did a little googling on this. The nearest I can come up with is something like 'number me among those with rage'.
Also, in the video, there's a theme of dice, and they say something like 'number me with 8. Maybe that has something to do with it too.
I agree though that it's a completely crap song.
@milimi,
Chai above has it
…although it's haste not rage

I bet the video producer designed the video around the nonsense lyrics.
@milimi,
Number as a verb can mean "count" as in "you cannot number the stars" or
"include" as "number me among those going to the game". Those song lyrics are terrible but it is probably the latter.
