Conservative here: Bush should be held responsible for signing off on spending like a sailor on leave. Any self respecting Republican/Conservative should bash the pork barrel spending in our Congress like we used to bash the Dems. On Iraq: Someone should be held responsible for the gross failures in the intelligence community. It is a continuity of errors from the first Bush admin through Clinton and up to and including Bush II. While I do not believe that there was some conspiracy invloved in the executive; someone must be held accountable for the WMD situation. Saddam had them, used them on the Kurds and I do not belive that he was a good citizen and handed them over to the U.N.. Where are they then and when can I expect them in NYC? As for the Abu G prison-the acts were childish, cruel and pointless, however, the President cannot know what is going on at all times and has a lot on his plat other than the inner workings of a military jail. The Abu Gharab prison scandal is a failure fof leadership in the officer corps who ran the prison. Let the investigation find out who is at fault as high as it goes.
Responsiblity? Responsibility? Is there a direct connection between what happens politically during a president's term and an important occurance?
Some people descend to a simplistic answer with regard to the elections beginning in 1994 and continuing in 1996 and 1998. Some say that Bill Clinton is responsible for the Democrats losing both the House and the Senate for the first time in nearly fifty years.
While Clinton's actions did probably contribute to these losses, he cannot be held totally responsible.
The same is true, I believe, for each chief executive.
