I read in wikipedia that food-grade phosphoric acid (additive E338[9]) is used to acidify foods and beverages such as various colas. It provides a tangy and sour taste.

Why would you want to acidify foods and beverages?

@gollum,
To provide a tangy and sour taste?

Sounds refreshing, but not for pancakes and waffles.
