Hello,
In.the sentence: "Knowing these words can get you a long way in China
even if you are only going to be vacationing", what is the meaning of
"can get you a long way", does it mean these words will be very useful?
In the sentence: " Let's put together what we have learned so far.", what is the meaning of "so far" here?

There is practically no limit to the number of phrases in the English language whose words don't seem related to the intended meaning. The more you see them, the more the meanings will become clear.

The full expression is:"So far, so good."
It speaks to the spontaneous unpredictability of the future while being an acknowledgement of the bounty till now accumulated.
