Please improve it grammatically and rhetorically

A rich man invited a famous painter to paint a portrait for him, but when the painting has been finished, he refused to pay $5000 commission that he has promised the painter before painting. The reason of his refusal was that, he said, "the portrait is not me at all."
Soon the painter exhibited the portrait public, and named the portrait as "thief".
The rich man protested the painter with ferocious anger after knowing this.
"It is not the portrait of you at all." The painter explained calmly.
Thereupon the rich man had to buy out the portrait, and renamed it as "philanthropist".
