what is the difference between faith and hope ?

Faith puts out, Hope doesn't.

Seriously, faith is a belief that something is either true, or not true. Faith may or may not be based on evidence. Hope is simply the desire that something be true, or not true--there is no implication that one knows either way.

I have faith that god will not let us come to harm.

I have faith that my past experience of John's honesty will justify trusting him.

I hope we will come to no harm.

I hope we are right to trust John.
