What does it mean by 'this time around'?

As in the sentence below.

Though the 51-year-old's normal modus operandi is to climb with bare hands, this time around he did use suction cups and ropes for safety.

I don't know exactly what the meaning it is.

Could someone show me the meaning of it and exemplify a few more sentence using 'this time around'?

In the other times he used his bare hands, this NEW occurrence, he's doing something different, 'this time around' means this present, new, latest try, attempt, effort.

Though his normal method is to climb with bare hands, but this time he didn't do it that way.
