A bag of potato chips has an opening/chip; after tearing off the bag with the aid of this opening, something throws 'that part' onto the floor and walks on enjoying his potato chips.

Do you have a special name for such a thing in English?:

-He left behind the ___.

@WBYeats,
Potato chips have crumbs in the bottom of the bag. Sometimes, the crumbs outweigh the chips.

No, sorry.
Just the corner of the bag, or the corner of the packet.
Or the tear-off portion.

@WBYeats,
A bag of potato chips has an opening/chip; after tearing (something??) off the bag with the aid of this opening, something [SOMEONE???] throws 'that part' onto the floor/ground and walks on enjoying his potato chips.

I think that the potato chip bags where you live are designed differently than what the respondents so far are used to, WB.

Let me try to describe what I believe a bag is like. I'm not sure I am right on this. Can you provide a picture?

There is an opening in the bag that is covered with a glued on/sealed on cover. A person can peel this back or peel it right off.

If I am right, it could be called a zip strip.

Or he tore off a fragment.

In Douglas Adam's Meaning Of Liff Didcot has a similar meaning.

Quote:
The tiny oddly-shaped bit of card which a ticket inspector cuts out of a ticket with his clipper for no apparent reason. It is a little-known fact that the confetti at Princess Margaret's wedding was made up of thousands of didcots collected by inspectors on the Royal Train.

I thought I'd read all of DA's books, but I don't remember that one.

@contrex,
It's a book where he gives his own definition of British place names like Didcot and Botley.

@WBYeats,
"Corner tear-off" is pretty common per Mac above

https://www.google.ca/#q=Corner+tear-off+parts+bag

but I like "zip-strip" better per JTT
