Now I suppose what we now should have is a sub-poll, allowing us to nominate the States we live in. Only fair, waddya reckon Wilso? Now, this should only require a few minor changes.........

I lived in Oz for over two years in Sydney (Neutral Bay) working on loan to Optus Communications in 1992, 1993 and part of 1994. We built a telephone network over all Australia. My job took me to all the capital cities and all points in between. I went back in 1998 for three months on vacation (holiday) and saw old friends and the rest of the spots I did not see while living there. I liked all the country but especially Sydney, Melbourne, Tasmania, Lord Howe Island, south coast of NSW, and the mountains of Victoria.

I think it was Josh Lewsey who told the story of the Australian metal detector.

Leaving from Sydney airport after the world cup, the alarm sounded at the departure gate. Takes out all keys and money...sounds again. Removes all possible metal objects... sounds again. Big Aussie security guard says "sorry mate I'm gonna have to frisk ya"
"That won't be necessary" says Josh, taking out and displaying the winners medal from under his shirt!

What would you suggest as to how long a trip should be and how much of the country could be seen (reasonably).

If you want to "see" Australia, probably around three weeks to visit the NW and east coast plus Alice Springs.
