Hi. I am so fustrated. I am hoping someone provide some words of wisdom. My 11yr old son has had this rash on his chin and jaw line for about 3 months now. It doesn't itch or bother him at all. Its just red and bummy. We have been to see the dermatologist a few times. He originally diagnosed it as perioral dermatitis and gave us a script of Clindamycin to use topically for a month. That did nothing so then he changed the diagnosis to lichen nitadus (sp) and gave us a script for Locoid. The Locoid made his skin mad so the derm changed the topical to Elidel. That seemed to reduce the redness and inflamation but the size of the rash is still the same. Now he added an oral antibotic, Cephalexin (since he is allergic to penicillian) that hes been taking for 5 days along with the Elidel still and said maybe it is perioral dermatitis. No improvement still. Any ideas on what this could be...or how to treat it.

3 months is not long; it might well clear up on its own.
He's 11 so it could be associated with the hormonal changes of a growing boy.
Or perhaps his skin doesn't like coming into contact with something such as man-made fibres, so change his pillowcase for a pure cotton one.
Also don't let him use soap to wash his face, it could be that. Nobody needs soap anyway unless they're a coal miner, so just use fresh water..Smile

@robb126,
At his age, his body is starting to mature and hormones are starting to take over.

Is it possible it could be ingrown hairs? The location seems to be along the beard hairlines.

Does he drool when sleeping? It sounds like a simple rash from constant moisture around the mouth and chin.

My daughter got a simple rash when she was young. It was from having a pen or pencil in her mouth all the time when studying. Once that was stopped, the rash stopped.
