I thought you would like to know that you are correct about why I'm mad at my mom. She doesn't know why I don't talk to my sister; despite the fact that I can't stand my mom either, how could I tell her this stuff? My dad knows a bit about it. My mom sent photos of my 2 yr old to my sister. I was livid.

As to believability, stuff like this happens. One of my husband's co-workers has a baby boy and a six-yr old girl. Her husband was arrested for making porn using both children and for trying to arrange his daughter's murder.

My first 30-yrs could be a movie. If done well, a David Lynch; if done poorly, a Lifetime Original.

Still, some have had it much, much worse. I often wonder how that co-worker and her 2 kids cope. My husband said she was away for a couple of weeks, but then came back to work seemingly 'normal'.

the 'problem' is most likely that you care more about your family than you care to admit, recognize, or wish to incorporate into your personality.
Take the time to sit down quietly, alone, and consider your feelings for your parents, and siblings, and have a compassionate look at how they would feel about these topics.
Even if you disagree with their approach to many subjects, giving their feelings a place in your understanding will probably help you to defuse your reactions to what may very well be patently unreasonable behaviour.

You're right. I've already done this, and I do care way too much about my family. I find it extremely difficult to sit back and watch how apathetic they can be about things I consider important... like health issues and alcoholism. I lived across the country before, and things were much better for all of us.

Whew. I'm livid, too. As for the co-worker's story ... that is so horrible I can hardly stand to think of it. What makes a man like that even tick?

Glad you've managed to pull yourself up and out of your early years. Hope you stick around a2k.

Good quote!
