As a Master Mason, he was given entree into an affiliated body called the Mystic Order of Veiled Prophets, for which he served as Shriner and Past Monarch.

What is "Shriner and Past Monarch" in Freemasonary?
Is that a post or two posts?
The word "Past" is most confusing.

@JustinXujia,
Freemasonry is a very secret activity, Justin.

If I told you the information you require, they would probably discombubulate me and demand the return of my leather apron.

@Lordyaswas,
Thank you all the same, Lordyaswas.

I'm translating a book, a part of which mentions the term, so...

@JustinXujia,
Google, maybe? Wiki?

You will probably have to dig deep somewhere before you find out.

@JustinXujia,
I have rolled up my left trouser leg and am wiggling my ghoulie finger at the monitor for you, as is customary in such matters.

@JustinXujia,
My guess is that past means former, the capital could just be making the position more honorific but as Lordy says who really knows but those whackos.

A shriner is just a member of The Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, also commonly known as Shriners.

A Past Monarch is someone who had served as president of the local group, mainly in the The Mystic Order of Veiled Prophets of the Enchanted Realm, also known as M.O.V.P.E.R. or The Grotto

@timur,
If they find that you've divulged this, Timur, they will make you wear the furry tricorn of shame at the next AGM.

I refused, time and time again, to be part of their thing.

Their first requirement is to believe in an "higher god".

I'm an atheist.

@Lordyaswas,
JoefromChicago has an avatar of a guy in one of those funny hats. These are the same Shriners, aren't they?

Are they also the hospital guys?

@timur,
It's in his current avatar, Timur. I can't swear it's Shriner.

@JTT,
Yep, I checked it out.

Not a shriner, it's a fez from the Grotto, as far as I can see..
