Dang, I missed my chance for a bluff in this round!
I'll guess 8 just because the word sounds so Greek.

I don't think it's 8! 7 and 10 sound good. I'm going to very simply go for the simple 12.

Darn!! I don't pay enough attention to what's going on. Both Felix and I missed a chance at a bluff.

Taffy, you are sooo right--superior creatures should not fall behind.

# 2 for me.

#5 for Felix.

Results for

XYSTARCH:

1. Flat-footed. (bluff by Peace and Love. No takers)

2. Genetic information held in either the X or Y chromosome, having nothing to do with gender or sex characterics. (bluff by Equus. Chosen by Diane)

3. An architectural arched entryway that came into popular use in post war Germany. (bluff by Littlek, no takers)

4. A place that Diva's of today perform their calisthenics in stormy weather. (bluff by firstthought, no takers)

5. A superindendance of the feline powder-room. (bluff by taffy le blanc, chosen by felix noir)

6. An Egyptian district ruler chosen by consulting the entrails of a sacred cat (bluff by clary, chosen by taffy le blanc)

7. A leader randomly selected by secret ballot. (bluff by jespah, chosen by clary)

8. Ancient Greek officer in charge of physical exercise. (CORRECT ANSWER, chosen by Jespah, George, ehbeth, devriesj, drom_et_reve)

9. An abnormal polysaccharide found, in small quantities, amongst normal starch in fourteen out of every thousand plants. A presence of xystarch is usually caused by poor growing conditions. (bluff by drom_et_reve, chosen by littlek, margo)

10. The region of contact between the axon of one neuron and the dendrite of another neuron, across which nerve impulses are transmitted. (bluff by realjohnboy, chosen by peace and love)

11. Powder component of the extra-strength formulation of Shower to Shower, derived from corn. (bluff by ehbeth, no takers)

12. A covered walkway. (bluff by devriesj, chosen by realjohnboy, firstthought)

A lot of you were on the right track. Apparently you know your Greek roots, or at least knew that a xyst was a covered walkway (devriesj on the nose and others not far off) and was somehow involved with calisthenics (firstthought). A xyst-arch was the leader of exercises, performed in the xyst covered walkway. Congrats. I'm impressed with you all if you didn't google it.

Did we ever figure out scoring totals after the previous round?

Here are the last round's scores, with all the changes made but, as for the running total, I'm not sure.

Thanks for a great round, Equus!

Thanks, equus for a fun round with xystarch.
Re the scoring, I believe those folks who picked #8 should have each gotten 2 points rather than the 3 you awarded them (3 points for e-mailing the Dasher with the correct definition when the word is posted; 2 for selecting it from the list).
If that is correct:
@ 6 points: ebeth, devriesj and drom
@ 5 points: rjb and taffy
@ 4 points: equus
@ 3 points: jespah
@ 2 points: cav, diane, margo and george
@ 1 point: littlek and clary
@ 0 points: p&l and first thought

I don't believe, equus, that anyone would play this silly game and try to win by googling. -rjb

And, oh yes, unless someone else wants to take a turn, I'll be the Dasher with the next word. And the word is:
ICKER

Please send me a pm with your notion of what this word does or could mean. Thanks. -johnboy-

Can my son Tam play this once? Or maybe even twice? He's home for the summer but no time to sit and become an A2Ker!
