My wife is an Irish citizen, and I'm a second generation Narrowback, so I'm familiar with this.
The West of Ireland is where Gaelic is spoken freely. In the rest of the country, it is usually heard in schools, where it is a compulsory language.

Oh, I thought this was the swear in garlic thread, which is easy enough, just breathe on someone. Actually, very cool site. The wife and I honeymooned in West Cork, in the outskirts, avoiding that tourist trap Skibereen. We had a lovely oceanside view, a small beach with amazing mussel beds, and just a kilo or two walk to Castletownsend.
