They are not indiscriminately snooping on anyone. Phone metadata is only accessed if there is a good reason for doing so....
But it is gathered indiscriminately on every citizen, right? Again, I don't think that taking the narrowest possible interpretation of the Bill or Rights is a good thing. Being a country where the people run the government and not the other way around is a big component of what makes America great.
