"Joe Public" reminds me of the belittling remarks by that hag, Leonna Helmsley, when she said only the "little people pay taxes."

She got hers.

I am not Joe Public or Jane Public: I am an American citizen, a person, and Bush had better realize it.

I don't mind the idea of being mild-mannered accountant 'Joe Public' by day, and by night 'Joe Pubic', porno superhero. Yeah, that would be sweet, what with all the conquering bush.

I have no idea. I never saw it and a search on "toffies" only comes up with your use of it here. None of the Moderators reported pulling anything.

It's possible the original poster deleted it themselves (you can do that as long as you catch it within a few minutes of your posting).

The post appeared and disappeared and appeared in about the space of a half hour. It was cynical and sarcastic and the subject was foiled plots in the UK. It was written by an Englishperson. Am I being "Gaslighted"?

Taffy is a slighting term used for the Welsh--so it might have been a Brit . . . Toffie? I dunno, never heard it used . . .

Deecups36- I agree that Helmsley's remark WAS demeaning, especially in the context in which it was written. I cannot equate "the little people", with "Joe Public" though!
