City Councilor Daniel Rivera claimed a 60 vote victory over incumbent Lawrence Mayor Lantigua.

Now why do I say this is stupid? – Lantigua is a crook. (well alleged at this point). And to come so close to winning – a mere 60 votes? How stupid are these people? And what is stated in the article is just the tip of the iceberg on this guy – if you know anything about our local politics (things like hiring his ex-wife, stuff around his live-in girlfriend, etc). I mean Rivera should have won by a landslide.

Lantigua, had faced several high-profile political troubles, including allegations of campaign finance violations and was recently named in a lawsuit filed by Attorney General Martha Coakley that alleged he violated campaign finance laws.

Two associates of the mayor, including his former chief of staff, pleaded not guilty in June to corruption charges. Lantigua himself has not been charged with any crimes and a recall effort mounted by opponents two years ago failed to collect enough certified signatures to move forward.

But this is just dumb politics – at least in Mass – just in a recent past election, we were dumb enough to actually vote in state rep who has crime written all over him. His wife was convicted of tax fraud while helping her brothers (who were convicted for illegal internet gambling business) funneling profits into a bank account. Which one of these brothers stated this Congressman knew everything that was going on. Of course he denied it – but how the heck would you not know that your wife had all this money coming into your bank account and she suddenly has all this money – so either he is lying or a complete idiot – yet he won the election.

Elections are almost always just beauty contests. Usually, the candidate with the better wardrobe and make-up artists wins. (That includes spin doctors, media specialists, political connections, etc., etc.)

Because of this crook - they have an armed guard watching the voter ballot box 24 hours a day. The current mayor is not conceeding yet so they need to keep the ballot box under watch - it is taped shut with --- what else -- but duct tape.

Heard one supporter of the current mayor saying oh he seems like a nice guy...typical uninformed voter ... had nothing to add of what the mayor has done to help the town, etc. Just yeah seems like a nice guy -
