I do find it interesting (and surprising) that 9.5% of income is considered "affordable". It brings me back to the days when we had established guidelines on how to live within one's means. Things like one week's salary for rent/mortgage, one weeks salary for food and incidentals, etc. My daughter is about to set up housekeeping on her own and asked me for guidance on setting up and living within a budget. Health insurance premiums has to be a line item in that budget. Hers won't be nearly 9.5% as she's just starting out, but it will certainly be something she has to plan for.
