In a hotel in Paris, I happened to see a sign reading, "Please leave your values at the front desk." I can feel the strong imperative mood in it. Isn't it funny? But what's the right way of saying it in English? Thank you.

Should read "Please leave your valuables....."

However. it might say something about the type of "hotel" it is ! Wink

On a similar point about signage, the escalator at CDG Roissy is labelled "get down"as a translation of "descendre". We did not hit the floor and look round for terrorist gunmen !
