Husker, Last I heard, the luxury tax on cars no longer exists. Instead, you get a big fat tax write-off for buying a luxury SUV.
Don't you agree that that is bizarre, considering?

unless it's been changed recently, the tax still applies for cars-imported selling at over $40,000

PDiddie, thanks for that info, I had no idea!
The auto luxury tax was scheduled to end in 2003.
I don't know if it actually has, but they've been lowering it in increments since 1996.

Yep, it's history!
The automobile luxury tax, brought to you by the first president Bush, has expired.
Under the current president Bush, you now get big tax bennies.
Though the struggling economy presumably does not have much of an impact on folks who drop $75,000 or more on a gift, there is a new financial wrinkle in this year's luxury-cars-as-gifts market: the federal luxury tax on new cars over $40,000 expired on Jan. 1.
The luxury tax, which has been phased out over the last six years from a high of 10 percent, applies to any amount over $40,000 that a consumer spends on a new car.

Oh look, it's Transmetal Tarantulas!

That's my character all right.

What I want to know is, where's my flying car? We were supposed to have them by around 1970 and they're still not here.

What we really need these days is hydrogen-powered cars. Nothing comes out the tailpipe but water. That might make for a lot of rusty tailpipes though.
